What planting zone am I in?
Take a look at the USDA plant zone map, as planting zones have shifted through the years. Zones with bigger numbers can begin planting earlier in the year. Up your chances of successful gardening by planting flowers, trees, and vegetables that are intended for your zone.
How much is mulch delivery at The Home Depot?
The Home Depot offers flexible mulch delivery options nationwide based on the size of your order. For small orders, we can deliver via car for a $3 fee. As orders get bigger, we switch to a van for a $35 fee. For massive jobs, we have a fleet of box trucks and flatbeds ready to deliver to your job site for a $79 fee. You can also pick up your mulch at the store for free, and orders that meet a purchase threshold may qualify for free delivery. Not sure how much you'll need? Check out our mulch calculator to get started. Keep scrolling for details below on mulch delivery via van, truck, or car.
Can I pick up my mulch order myself?
Yes, you're welcome to pick up your mulch yourself. We're also happy to help if you need it. After you buy mulch online with store pickup or purchase it in-store, go to the drive-thru or mulch loading zone if your store has one. One of our associates can load your small-to-medium mulch order directly into your truck or SUV. For very large orders of any mulch, we recommend delivery.
Does The Home Depot deliver mulch?
If you have a small bagged mulch order, you can get it delivered to your door via a store-fulfilled local delivery service that uses third-party drivers. Your mulch will arrive in a regular car or van for just a $3 delivery fee. Loose mulch orders, also called yard or bulk mulch, will come in a truck. If you order a specific number of bags, you may get free delivery. That threshold varies from one store to the next, but you'll be able to verify the cost at checkout.
How much mulch qualifies for large truck or flatbed delivery?
When you're ordering huge quantities of bulk mulch or pallets of bagged mulch, you'll qualify for box truck or flatbed delivery. Normally, these are Pro customers, landscapers, or serious DIYers undertaking a major landscaping project. There's a minimum pallet order to maximize resources and usually a delivery fee. Orders that pass a threshold may qualify for free delivery.
What do I do about all these weeds?
Weeds are likely poking through in the garden beds, even if you put down a landscape fabric or mulch to keep them at bay. Be sure to get them before they go to seed. Pull out weeds from the root in edible flower or vegetable gardens, and dig up the roots if the weed snaps off at ground level. If you choose to treat weeds with weed killer, find one that's safe for bees, other pollinators, and pets — and wear a respirator and heavy rubber gloves to ensure that it doesn't irritate your lungs or your skin.
How do I fix scorched grass?
You'll need to rehydrate those roots. The solution for how to get burnt grass green again is easy: Fix the scorched spot with a good long drink, then continue to water it regularly. It should perk up within a week. On the other hand, the method for treating grass damaged by dog urine isn't as simple. Grass damaged by pets must be removed, neutralized, and replaced in fresh soil with new grass seed, sod, or patch and repair grass seed.
When should I water the lawn?
If you can water at least once a day, during the early morning or in the evening, that's ideal. When it's extremely hot out, twice is better. Watering when it's hottest outside means a great deal of the moisture will evaporate. This applies to whatever you've got growing: trees, lawns, and gardens. Whenever you water, give all the plants a thorough drink, and don't skip it if it's not the ideal time. The plants still need water to live, no matter what time it is. Depending on your lawn health, climate, and grass type, you may also want to look into adding a lawn fertilizer.
Should I fertilize my plants?
Once you've planted your plants or flowers, you'll need to make sure they stay hydrated and well-fed. Choose a synthetic or an organic fertilizer and give your garden a boost. You can even find one that's formulated for your plants, whether you need a flower fertilizer, vegetable fertilizer, citrus tree fertilizer, or general garden fertilizer blend. Avoid applying more often than recommended. Always water immediately after, as directed. That way, the plants won't be burned by the fertilizer.
How can I keep cool this summer?
When you need a break from relentless summer heat, shelter beneath a covered gazebo or a patio umbrella. If you have sturdy structures like a house or a shed, make your own shade by attaching shade sails and awnings. But sometimes shade isn't enough because it's just too humid out. That's when a misting fan or patio mister can help cool the air and turn an uncomfortable afternoon into a refreshingly relaxing day. Return to lounging in the sun when that water-cooled air is ready.
What do I need for backyard entertaining?
Backyard entertaining is whatever you'd like it to be — it doesn't have to be a barbeque party. If you're planning on firing up the grill, make certain you know how to clean a grill when you're done. Many people simply relax outdoors and chat away the afternoon or maybe cook a meal in an outdoor kitchen. However you bond, extend the fun into the evening with proper outdoor lighting and a bug-free yard without pesky mosquitoes.

Celebrate Summertime Gardening
As summer stretches on, your garden and landscaping will weather more sun and heat than earlier in the year. That means you'll need to consider how to keep things cool with proper tending and irrigation. You might also need ways to beat the heat. We can help. At The Home Depot Eagle Garden Center, we've got what you need to make the most of summer.
Keep Your Lawn Tidy
As the weeks tick by, the grass seed or sod you planted will grow taller than what's ideal. Give it some TLC so it looks fresh again. Keep the lawn in check with a push lawn mower and a string trimmer to knock down any tall grass around fences, buildings, or sidewalks.
Bushes, trees, and shrubs climb toward the sun and lose their shape over time. They'll be growing fast, filled with blooms before you know it. Trim wild branches to the size and shape you want with garden shears and hedge trimmers. It's best to leave tree topping and major tree maintenance to the pros, but you may want to use a pole saw for minor trims and a chainsaw for small trees and bushes.
Care for Your Trees and Shrubs
When you're making sure your garden is watered, don't forget about the trees and shrubs. They may need less watering than summer flowers or vegetable plants, but they can still get dry and parched in the summer heat. It's easy to learn how to water bushes and trees — just aim the water at the roots. It'll help prolong the greenery and keep it from turning brown or yellow. Also, check for damage on your trees and shrubs. Pests can destroy your greenery.
Look for leaves full of holes, spots on bark or leaves, or a network of raised lines on the bark that look like artistic decoration. When your leaves look like lace, something is eating them. Spots may indicate a number of issues ranging from bugs to fungus. Those scar-like lines on tree bark could mean your tree is infected with borers, which are insects that lay eggs inside the bark and then burrow out after they hatch. Research and care for any of these issues as soon as possible, as they may ultimately end the life of your tree.
Vertical Edible Gardening
Grow produce vertically for a smart use of space. Many vegetable plants are vines and well-suited to climb a fence or trellis, so plant them next to one. The key to success is supporting the stem, fruit, and branches. This is so the weight of the plant doesn't snap those parts of the plants. Fasten the plant to a fence, trellis, or pole with plant ties and wires, string, garden wire, or fabric strips. Be sure to attach each plant loosely. That way, the stem has room to grow wider, and the branches and leaves can sway in the breeze.
Strawberries, watermelon, squash, cucumbers, and tomatoes need support as they bear fruit. Melons and squash require hammocks made of old nylons, string, a sling, or other stretchy fabric to support the weighty produce. All of these plants take up less space on the ground this way, which allows you to have walking room between plants or fit even more of them.
Vines as Decorative Shade
Plant vines near a trellis or an arched arbor so they'll climb it and give you both beauty and shade. Choose vine plants that are native to your area. They attract pollinators and are a good choice for success. Jasmine, wisteria, and ivy are common options for creating a stunning pathway. Remember to match your vine plants to how much sunlight you receive, as some like full sun and others don't. As a bonus, many vines put out sweet-smelling flowers, so you can enjoy a delightful fragrance as you cool off in the shade.
