Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, and CFLs for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment, as well as our communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Why should I get a doorbell camera?
Enjoy safety, privacy, and peace of mind with a wired or wireless doorbell camera. No more peeking through a nearby window or peephole when you can see human or animal visitors in real time. Some doorbell cams even let you chat remotely via your phone, which is useful to scare off potential porch pirates or talk to delivery people. Many cameras integrate with your smart home app or hub to give you flexible accessibility. Choose to save video clips for future reference and worry less with more control.
Do I need a generator?
We've got the options you need when searching for a generator for sale. Inverter generators are quieter and cleaner than traditional portable generators. They'll adjust to the required load, making more noise when they create more power. When shopping for generators for sale, keep in mind that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. Always run your generators outdoors, away from windows and doors, for safety purposes.
How can I prepare my home for the winter?
Make sure your home is ready for winter weather by repairing or replacing faulty parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in any crevices, you could headed for major repairs down the line. Check brick and cinder blocks for cracks, and ensure indoor ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. On the outside of your home, examine roofing shingles or metal roofing panels for damage or rust that could let water in. Gutters should be clear to prevent ice dams. Lastly, chimney caps and vinyl siding should be swapped out if in poor condition.
Are garage cabinets or sheds better for storage?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow unused items to free up space. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Shield fragile items with moving blankets. Shoe racks and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you the space you've been waiting for.
