Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, CFLs, and lead acid batteries for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
We have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores since 2010.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers. This commitment extends beyond our stores to our local communities, as well as the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our commitment to economic responsibility.

Do you stock large outdoor Halloween decorations?
We carry many types of colossal outdoor Halloween decorations, including many life-sized animatronics. Make your front yard the creepiest on the block with giant Halloween decor options, including reapers, skeletons, and witches. Skelly, the giant 12-foot skeleton, and Dean the Deathologist, a dapper bartender, are two current favorites. Halloween inflatables tend to be less scary and are an excellent choice for homes with children.
Is it good to have a generator at home?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for any circumstances life throws at you. Whether you're dealing with tornados, hurricanes, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy electricity after the elements take it out. When exploring different generators for sale, keep in mind that portable generators are more affordable and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. For safety purposes, always run your generators outside, away from windows and doors.
What home repairs should I make before it gets cold?
Ready your home for cold weather by repairing or replacing broken parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in any crevices, you could be in for a real headache. On the outside of your home, examine roofing shingles or metal roofs for damage or rust that could let water leak in. Gutters should be clear and functional to prevent ice dams. Check cinder blocks and bricks for cracks. Indoors, ensure ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. Lastly, vinyl siding and chimney caps should be swapped if they're in poor condition.
Are garage cabinets or sheds better for storage?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow unused items to free up space. Shoe racks and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Shield fragile items with moving blankets. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you plenty.
How do I check the balance of my Home Depot gift card?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are an excellent choice for housewarming parties, birthdays, and the holidays. DIYers know these gift cards are fun to give and to receive. You can purchase them online at homedepot.com or in our stores. If you receive a gift card, you can check your gift card balance online or visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you. Redeem our gift cards for online or in-store shopping, all with no additional fees.
