Questions & Answers

Is this safe to install in a modular home
ByDec 31, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Hi Bill, yes, the Eccotemp i12 can be installed in a modular home if it is professionally installed and all manufacturer instructions and local building and gas codes are followed. The unit must be properly vented outdoors with approved materials, have adequate combustion air, and maintain required clearances to prevent fire or carbon monoxide hazards. why would running floor heat overheat the unit? running a shower for and dishwasher for 30 mins would not make it over heat?
    ByOct 11, 2025
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Hi, the Eccotemp i12 can overheat when used for radiant floor heating because it’s not designed for continuous, low-flow applications. Floor heating systems typically run for long periods at low water flow rates, which causes the unit’s heat exchanger to overheat due to insufficient water movement to carry away the heat. In contrast, the i12 works well for standard household uses like showers and dishwashers, which have higher flow rates and shorter run times, allowing the system to cool itself effectively. Using the i12 for radiant heating not only risks overheating and damaging the unit but also voids the manufacturer’s warranty. How can I get the righ temperature right on the tank for the house and how do you drain it
      ByJul 15, 2025
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Hi, the i12 is an automatic controlled temperature controlled tankless water heater. This means that the temperature must be set from the front LED control panel. You can restrict the flow of the incoming water using the built in flow restrictor in order to achieve a desired set temperature. This water heater is flow activated and will adjust gas flames to heat as necessary To properly drain the Eccotemp i12, turn off gas, water, and power first. Open the unit’s drain valve and all hot water taps until water runs cold. Then close the drain valve, turn the water supply back on to refill, purge air by keeping taps open, and finally restore power and gas to restart the heater. Our water heater is not convertible. We need to be specific when ordering water heaters to ensure compatibility with the type of gas to be used.

Can you plug in the water heater with a extension cord
            ByDec 11, 2023
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Hello there! The i12-NG tankless water heater is furnished with a 3-feet power cord designed for connection to a 110/120 volts electrical outlet. It is imperative to note that we strongly discourage the use of power extension cords or any attempt to splice, cut, extend, or hardwire the power cord to an electrical panel. Such practices may lead to power surges or electrical issues, especially if an extension cord is damaged or experiences a short circuit. In the interest of safety, we highly advise against utilizing extension cords and instead recommend directly plugging the water heater into a dedicated electrical power socket. This precautionary measure serves to mitigate the potential impact of electrical problems. In the event of an electrical issue, this configuration ensures that any disruption is confined to the outlet itself, safeguarding the proper operation of the tankless water heater. Should you require further guidance in selecting the appropriate water heater, our knowledgeable team is readily available to assist. Thank you for considering our products, and please feel free to contact us for any additional assistance on our official website. Thank you! Team Eccotemp

Can this be plugged into a 110V wall outlet with a 15 or 20 amp breaker? Or does it require its own dedicated circuit with a higher amp breaker, such as 60 amp? (The ELECTRIC tankless units require a dedicated 60 amp circuit ). I have a 20 amp outlet,

              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Hello there! Certainly! The Eccotemp i12 is designed for convenient use and can be easily plugged directly into a standard 110-120V outlet, offering a hassle-free setup. On the other hand, the Electric Tankless series, specifically the IE series (IE11 and IE27), requires a more robust electrical setup. It necessitates a dedicated circuit with a minimum 50-amp breaker and operates on a higher voltage of 240V. It's important to be aware of these specific requirements when considering the IE series for your water heating needs. However, the manufacturing of the IE series is temporarily on hold. This pause in production is due to ongoing efforts to enhance and introduce additional features to further improve its functionality. Stay tuned for updates as we continue to refine and innovate our Electric Tankless series. Should you require further guidance in selecting the appropriate water heater, our knowledgeable team is readily available to assist. Can this unit be vented to the roof?
                ByOct 23, 2023
                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

Hello there! The Eccotemp i12 Natural Gas Tankless water heater offers the convenience of vertical venting up to the roof when equipped with the recommended 3" vertical vent kit, complete with a 2.5" to 3" vent adapter for seamless installation. Ensuring optimal performance and safety, it is imperative to complement the setup with a dedicated 3" vertical condensation drain pipe. This strategic addition prevents any condensation water from flowing back into the water heater, thereby maintaining its efficiency and longevity. The vents, constructed from stainless steel in Category III, have been specifically designed for this purpose. It is crucial to note that alternative materials such as galvanized or PVC are strongly discouraged, as they may compromise the system's effectiveness and pose potential risks. To guarantee the optimal functioning of the Eccotemp i12 Natural Gas Tankless water heater, adherence to these installation guidelines is strongly advised. Thank you! Team Eccotemp

                  Leaked after 10 months
Started leaking after 10 months. Eccotemp won’t warranty it. Wrecked my drywall on both sides of the wall. Plus it whistles when it runs and it’s so loud my neighbors can hear it. Complete junk.

The unit never picked the flow of water , even with several open faucets with an over all water pressure of about 60 - 70 psi. Also tried the relief valve at the heater, still the unit would not pick up the flow. Already have a unit ( different mfg. ) installed and it works great, if it was still being produced it would have been my first choice. Will be returning this and making another selection.

Do NOT Purchase this or any of their products. Poor Quality, peice of crap. I owned the unit for a full 18 months before it stopped working. The company warranty is worthless. If you are interested in throwing away a crap load of money on the unit, installation, removal and shipping of the unit back to them. Then go right ahead and toss your money.

For this price point best heater you can get. Vent pipe does cause overall cost to rise though. Can only run one shower or appliance at a time for hot water. All sinks running will have hot water. Water temperature at heater set at 133 heat out of faucet is 109 roughly in December. 3 bed 2 bath

This unit is very effective and supplies our homes needs. We are happy with this product for now and have hopes that it will last for many years. We also installed a check valve and clean out valves below the unit and cut off valves going to the supply lines both hot and cold. This will allow us to clean this unit periodically with white vinegar to remove the scale and lime build up adding to the units life.

Installed to my food truck with all new pipe and brand new 12v, 3gpm 55 psi water pump. Runs water through it but register at 0.0 gpm. Used 3 different brands of pumps. It does not work. Please don’t waste your money or time. I wouldn’t give it to my worst enemy.
