About This Product

Every piece of cedar meets the highest grading standards for strength and appearance. Cedar is renowned for its appearance, stability, durability and weather resistance. Ideal for a variety of applications and outdoor projects where lumber is exposed to the elements. Cedar's natural oils and preservatives fight off weather, bugs, fungi and algae; and if desired, allow excellent absorption of stains and paint. Tannish brown in color, the grain pattern is tight with few knots.

We had outdoor beach furniture with plastic webbing that deteriorated from the weather. The aluminum frames were in great shape so I purchased the cedar lumber for the chair bottoms and back. I put a cedar stain on the slats and the finished chairs look great.

Plant Shelf of Cedar ¾” x 3” x 8’ The cedar was soft and easy to work (with two sides milled; two sides rough) even though I lacked a table saw (recommended). I needed to select boards that were true and free of splits or large knots. I cut 4 upright legs and enough cleats for shelves and sanded all surfaces. I used Deckmate deck screws #8 1 1/4" coated but #6 deck screws might be sufficient and less likely to split wood. I took care not to split the ends when screwing shelf cleats to uprights. I used Titebond III Ultimate wood glue but any good quality wood glue may work. My shelves feature 24” x 6” porcelain tile (LifeProof “Shadow Wood” at Home Depot but several other wood-grain choices would have worked). I used two LIGHT coats of wood stain (Behr Premium stain and sealer) to match porcelain tile color, leaving wood grain to show. I found plans using a search engine for images (plant shelf) to find a suitable size and style, adopting it to my needs. I bought all supplies from Home Depot. This was a present to my wife and replaced a rusting plant shelf. I am not a carpenter and this challenged my wood working skills, but it was worth it because the cedar was so easy to use.

I purchased this board to make a rustic frame with it. It turned out great! Just exactly what I wanted. I would love to show you a photo of the finished piece, but this site does not allow me to do so. Kudos to Home Depot for making my project a success!

I just purchased it and have not used it as of right now. I purchased it to test its look (rough side) on my shed. I will be replacing the outer material with cedar pickets to give it an age look.
