A:  This is not treated lumber. It will rot if it remains untreated or protected with a stain or a paint.

A:  Your friend has shared a link to a Home Depot product they think you would be interested in seeing. 1 in. x 4 in. x 8 ft. Premium Kiln-Dried Square Edge Whitewood Common Board https://www.homedepot.com/p/100023465 This is a common board.

A:  The best wood you can find to start a campfire. I have never had any luck with it. It is probably the cheapest grade that you can buy. Some pieces may be better than others, I just have never gotten one. Just my honest opinion.

Q:Is this ok to use as repalcement bed slats?

    Answer This Question

A:  I've used these boards for slats across the rails on two queen-size beds. I've been pleased with the results. I cut and installed five slats on each bed to support the box springs. The store where I bought my mattress and box springs recommended 5 slats rather than 3 or 4. On one bed I screwed the boards to the rails using short drywall screws. I pre-drilled pilot holes in the slats and rail before inserting the screws. I used two screws per board, one on each end. On the other bed I nailed the boards to the rails. I used four nails per board, two on each end. I think I prefer the screws to nails. You just need a driver bit to reach the screw heads when they're close to the sides of the rails.

A:  I would say-"yes". But I would weigh the cost of the 1x4 vs the 1x6 or wider to see if it would cost less purchasing a wider board-meaning it may be more cost effective purchasing wider boards and not having to purchase as many as you would the 1x4 to cover the frame area.

A:  These should be sturdy enough for bed slats. I would choose these over the furring strips.

    Q:What grade are these boards? #3, #2, C ??? Thanks.

    Answer This Question

A:  This wood is hard and smooth, it also may have knots. The grade can vary from a B to a F - depending on the stack. some will have damage or be unfinished and or be warped like part of a wooden pretzel. you need to pick out your own wood if you want good pieces.

I started to get into DIY home projects and with the 3 6’ pieces I was able to build a shelf I saw online. This wood is easy to sand and the wood grain looks really cool after it gets stained.

Well machined on 4 sides. 6 of 10 were perfectly straight In both directions and 4 were perfectly straight in the width direction. They made great door jams. Very happy with the wood delivered and not selected by me.

For the price, this stuff is really not so base. I was looking for some wood to make a distressed American Flag, but did not want to drop a lot of $$$$. What I liked about this was the sides are square, not rounded like a 2x4, so each piece glued together nicely. As for knots, they do have a lot of them, but if you look through the stack, you will find boards with very small ones rather than very large. Other than that, I found many that were straight and have no crown/bowing. Deffinetly worth the price for some cool projects around the house.

The board was straight in the store but warped severely within a few days. My project does not require the full 6 ft so I may get by with mostly straight board.

The problem I found is finding a board that doesn't have holes and severe knotting in the wood.
