Q:Is it exactly 10" wide? I measured the one on the ceiling of my basement, which is only 9.5".

Answer This Question

A:  2x Board Sizes lose 3/4 inch in width. That means a 2x10 is actually 1 1/2 inch in thickness by 9 1/4 inches.

Q:Is the Prime Pressure-Treated Ground Contact Southern Pine Lumber ready for paint? Do I need a primer and if so, what do you recommend? Should I sand the board down for better grip for the paint or will that destroy the pressure treatment?

      Answer This Question

A:  Usually these boards are still wet from the treatment process right off the shelf so they need to air dry, then prime with good quality primer like Kilz or Zinsser. No need to sand for the primer to stick, just make sure it is sufficiently dry.

A:  No primer or sanding. We used Behr Deck over paint. One coat and done.

Cut to length 6' sections. Simple, right? Except what I got was one 70" and the other 74". Wood is what it is, meaning of the quality you'd expect purchasing lumber from a big box, just don't let them cut it.

I picked up an order that I ordered online. It was banded, so I did not get to examine the lumber. I was very disappointed. I did not go back to the store, due to the COVID virus. I would like a manager from HD to contact me. I did take photos of the lumber.

The YellaWood boards are good quality and the pressure treatment appears to fully penetrate the plank. I used this to repair the steps on my deck and I was impressed with the rigidity of the board, it made the other treads feel soft in comparison. Now I see why YellaWood carries a lifetime warranty, it’s good stuff.
