A:  The heat treatment helps to make the wood more durable, weather and rot resistant, as well as being less appealing to bugs.

A:  I think HD has a bad description. This is kiln dried (which does involve the application of heat), but it is not the same as heat-treated lumber.

        great product
I was impressed by the performance of this product. Despite difficult angles and structural requirements, it performed perfectly(as requested by my exceptional carpenter).

        2 x 6 lumber
VERY disappointing quality. Excessive knots, mold, chunks missing. This was PULP WOOD that some enterprising individual cut into boards. And the whole pallet was like that; suggests that the good cuts were removed to go elsewhere. I like Home Depot for most things, but they need serious quality control improvement in their lumber department.
