Questions & Answers

Do you make a fitting that doesn't have a paper thin flange that rusts out in less than 2 years? BTW same thing happened to the chrome finish on the pipe as well.

Helli Hugh, Yes, you can cut it but remember to smooth out the edges afterwards for the end to be used. Thank you, BrassCraft

Yes you can, however you have to put a copper pipe in it all the way and then cut it, otherwise you will destroy it. The pipe material is so thin that cutting it without interior support will destroy it. I?m wondering how long this paper thin pipe will la

Can you remove (unscrew?) the extension tube from the valve assembly? I have a similar shut off valve in my toilet coming up through the floor tile. I need to replace this tile so I'm wondering if I can make a small hole in the new tile so that I can slide through the extension tube, put the tile in place and than put back the valve on the extension tube.

        Answer This Question

Hello Matt-Thank you for your question, the extension tube is factory installed and is not removable from the valve body. If the extension tube is too long, you may trim it down. Call our Customer Support Team at 877-272-7755 if there is anything we can help you with.

I have a Brass Craft valve similar to the unit shown feeding a toilet. I need to check the actual size. My valve is leaking when opened, and I do not know how to get this apart. When this was originally installed did the extension slide over a copper stub, if so where is it soldered? Can I unscrew the valve behind the handle and replace what is probably a rubber seal ? Does Home Depot sell repair parts ?

It can be cut,but you'll never get a push fitting on it.

as FAR as you can get it before you start burning the wall with your torch .Weather you cut it or not you must clean inside with wire brush, ream end inside and out ( for best results ) flux, then solder. Some like to pre-tin the copper or use a pre-tinning flux, the flange should be tested to wall in order to hide joint.

Thank you for your question, T9461. The BrassCraft Multi-Turn Valve with Extension Tube is intended to be installed over a copper water supply pipe. The inside of the chromed tube will be soldered to the outside of the copper piping. The copper supply tube does not need to be inserted all the way to the supply stop. The installation requires that at least 1 In. of copper tubing be inserted into the chromed tube for adequate support and attachment. For further detail, please do not hesitate to contact our Product Experts toll free at 877-272-7755.

Copper stub should go in at least 1/2" but doesn't need to go all the way in the fitting. The valve is sweat so it needs to be cleaned and soldered.

Looks good, but not repairable and non standard valve size.
To be fair this was probably installed on my home when build in 91 and it lasted. The bad is that it started leaking and could not find new washers at HD or Ace so I cut it off and wanted a new one. Because of the sleave no standard size valve will fit. I had to cut out the wall and de-sweat the nub it attached to in the wall behind the toilet (very fun, almost set the house on fire getting the torch in there) and sweat in a new 1/2" pipe out to the toilet. Now any 1/2" valve will fit in the future. I will admit pipe the chrome pipe one looks better but is just not repairable.

That is repairable. We sell the BrassCraft BCSR01 stem repair kit at the Home Depot to repair the valve. It contains all the replacement washers and a new polymer stem. The chrome tube is a larger diameter due to it being able to sweat over copper tube. Thanks
