This Sun and Shade grass seed grows in tough conditions, including full sun, dense shade, high traffic areas and on slopes. Scotts EZ Seed Patch and Repair consists of high performance grass seed, continuous release lawn food, and super-absorbent growing mulch material. Scotts EZ Seed Patch and Repair Sun and Shade also includes a tackifier to help reduce seed wash-away and a protectant to help keep seedlings safe from harmful diseases. There are three easy steps to success: 1) prep the area by removing dead grass and loosening hard soil, 2) evenly apply EZ Seed so the area is mostly covered but bare ground is still visible, and 3) saturate with water until no more water is being absorbed and mulch turns dark brown. Plant seed in the spring or fall when daily average soil temperatures are consistently between 55°F and 70°F, or air temperatures between 60°F and 80°F. For best results, keep kids, pets, and lawn mowers off newly planted seedlings until the grass is 3 inches high.

There should be no harm if a pet walks through the area after application as Scotts EZ Seed Patch & Repair is simply seed, fertilizer and mulch. It is recommended that heavy traffic stay off of the newly seeded areas until the third or fourth mowing.

Hello and thanks for your question. Whenever the product is light brown, it needs to be watered. If it is dark brown, no water is needed. Typically this translates into watering 1-2 times a day, 3 times if the weather is hot and/or dry. To get the best results, Scotts EZ Seed Patch & Repair Sun And Shade requires a minimum of 4 hours of sunlight. (Note: There are very few exceptions to this rule, and they rarely come up).
