        A:  Both, you twist it to just over the size you need, then compress the two halves together to wedge it into the opening. The spring holds it in place

        Q:What is the max weight the curtain rod can hold?

        A:  Hard to say without breaking it. Extended to 45", I had a 3/4 lb. curtain extended along the length, then as an experiment I put 4 lbs concentrated weight at the center. It deflected quite a bit and creaked a little, but held. After I removed the weight there was no permanent damage, but I wouldn't add any more. If you distribute the weight over the length, I would say 5 lbs.

          A:  That all depends on how tight you make it and if you are willing to have it dig into your window frame. It didn't say specifically, but I'd say probably 10 lbs at most.

                I was looking for an inexpensive tension rod to hang a curtain under my sink, in place of the cupboard doors whose hinges had broken. I made a very lightweight curtain with seasonal material to add to the Fall decor in my home. This rod holds the curtain in place perfectly, and is sturdy enough to hold up to frequent sliding of the curtain back and forth to access supplies under my sink. If I am not careful it will come down, but is easily put back into place. I like that it was simple to create the proper tension for the space.
