Best way to install on wood

Asked by: Steve
We support the community answers below. You may use the synthetic underlayment, traditional saturated felt, Fiberglass Base Sheet, or an ice and water barrier. There are many options available today. Many applicators will nail down (mechanically attach) the field (main area) of the roof and put cold process adhesive around the perimeter, including the base layer, to keep winds from tearing the sheet from the fasteners. Some applicators choose to adhere the whole roofing membrane to the base below with only the perimeter edge of the base membrane adhered with adhesive. However you choose, the best method is to include a base layer below the Mineral Surface layer. One last word of caution, when using the cold process adhesive, be sure to follow the adhesive manufactures instructions for application method and rate of application. The most common mistake with MSR is over application of adhesive or misapplication by not allowing the adhesive to vent off the solvents that are in the adhesive. Over application or misapplication of the roofing adhesive may lead to premature degradation of the roofing membrane.

On a previous roof I used light weight tar paper and it proved to be a problem years later in the Arizona shingles tosun. For the roof over my ramada, I chose the white fiberglass roofing instead of tar paper. It was easy to work with and now I need to buy shingles to finish the roof.

I have a project that needed exactly 36 feet of this roofing, and when I rolled it all out and measured there was only 35 linier feet. So now I am one foot short on the roof of my shed. I don't want to buy a whole other roll, so I'm left to try and piece in some other material.

I it is oval shaped because it sat too long before use then simply set it on its edge until it becomes round again. Make sure to have adhesive for the ends and don't use plated nails that will rust use aluminum 1 1/4 and don't be shy about using them. If a 20 mph wind gets under any roofing because it's not nailed and sealed you wasted your time because it's flying off. I recommend a coat of Gardner Sta-Kool + to seal it and it should last 30 years at least. Although it has discolored due to the pine trees this product has been on my garage roof for over 40 years which has a 12/12 pitch. This product is not to be used on a pitch like that by the manufacturer but it worked well for me. The Gardner Sta-Kool + seals it and reflects all the sunlight to keep it cool.
