15 in. 50 lb. Built-In Ice Maker in PrintShield Stainless Steel

I purchased this KitchenAid ice maker as a favor for a customer and friend, hoping to replace her reliable 15-year-old KitchenAid unit. I assumed buying the same trusted brand would be a safe choice. Unfortunately, I was completely wrong. The Problem: Home Depot’s delivery on Friday was flawless, and they clearly explained their 48-hour warranty window before KitchenAid’s 1-year warranty took over. We installed the unit on Monday, but it never produced a single ice cube—not even once. The Warranty Runaround: When we contacted Home Depot’s customer service (after their warranty period ended), they directed us to KitchenAid. This is where things went from bad to worse: • Impossible to reach: Phone wait times exceeded hours. The chat feature was even worse—lengthy waits only to be disconnected or transferred repeatedly. • $150 diagnostic fee: When we finally got through, we learned that KitchenAid charges $150 just for a technician to examine a brand-new, defective product still under warranty. • Two-week wait: The earliest available appointment was two weeks out—for a product that never worked from day one. The Real Issue: Why doesn’t KitchenAid/Whirlpool simply exchange an obviously defective unit? Instead, they force customers to pay out-of-pocket and wait weeks for a product that was DOA (dead on arrival). This makes no sense for a premium brand. My Recommendation: Based on this experience, I cannot recommend KitchenAid appliances. The product quality has clearly declined from their older models, and their customer service is practically non-existent. Save yourself the frustration and choose a different brand with better quality control and customer support.

Purchased a Kitchenaid built in Icemaker in May. This was our 4th unit. It was delivered and set up by a technician. We called because it produced so much heat - it was actually melting about half of the ice it made. A tech came out to examine it and found it to be true that there was too much heat. He ordered a fan that he thought was defective. Received new fan and installed it but had just as much heat. Calling Kitchenaid (waiting on phone over an hour) and they told us that that is just the way the new units are. We are stuck with an icemaker that melts ice!! NO CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Very disappointed. Stopped making ice less than 10 months from delivery. The earliest repair KitchenAid could schedule is three weeks from now via an out state appliance repair company.

So, when I set out to buy another for my new place, I searched long and hard, then decided on this one again. I am happy to report that it is not as noisy as the first. In fact, considerably quieter, to the point that I seldom notice it. I like the way this unit is accessed for ice, I like the cubes, I like the way it is maintained, and I like that there is a substantial company behind it if I ever need service. I would give it five stars if it had clear ice…but it doesn’t. You know what…the ice is cold and always available!

It makes lots of ice in a square format, perfect for drinks, iced coffee, tea and all else. It is nice and quiet. I hope it lasts us longer than our previous ice maker did which was only two years. We have terrible hard water and it is hard on all of our appliances and pipes so we will see how it holds up over time. I hope to be able to repost back a year or two from now with a positive report.

I bought this for my new home about 2 years ago. It has been replaced once and have had multiple repairs and it finally just died this month. Not even 2 years and it’s no longer under warranty so we have to replace:( worst ever
