Answer This Question
A:Â I bought one several years ago and found that you have to buy the 3M sandpaper sheets to use it; regular sandpaper sheets are too short.

A:Â You will need to cut the paper to fit.

A:Â Yes, cut to fit. One would think the industry would sell the correct size.

Q:What is the I.D. no. of the sandpaper strips that fit DRHS 008 drywall hand sander?

Answer This Question
A:Â They sold the size that fits right next to the sander in store. Realize this doesn't help you for online shopping. You could also cut out larger paper to fit if it is not brittle when it bends.

A:Â I would think a razor blade scraper would be better but a medium to coarse paper on this device might work if the glue area is large.
by|May 8, 2018
A:Â Yes, as long as you get the correct grid of sand paper

Q:Can we use the hand sander to sand decks? Just parts of the deck that need sanding.

A:Â Unless your deck is very smooth, I would say this is not the device for that work.

A:Â Yes, you can use it for wood when the proper sandpaper is used for your application. We just market this product for drywall sanding but it can be used for almost any job where a hand sander is needed. Thanks for asking!

A:Â It's possible, but it will take a lot of your time. I suggest electric sander. But even with 4x4 you will spend considerable time. It's probably cheaper to rent big sander and be done in 1=2 hours, rather than spend days with hand sander and small electric sander. I needed to send wood garage door mouldings. I used 4x4 palm electric sander and it took me >45 minutes and multiple pads to remove all paint flakes and smooth the surface.

How about sandpaper sheets that fit the sander?
I don't know if this is 3M or home Dep ,But my wife bought the 3 1/4" × 8 3/4" hand sander. The guys at HD gave her the sheets that are supposed to go with it. However they aren't large enough to be secured in place.. the sheets are 3 2/3" x 9". So like it is the same size as the bottom surface of the sander, but there is no way to fold the ends up at ends to tighten the grips down and secure the sandpaper. You would need like an extra inch or so on each side, like maybe 11".

Useless
You buy this thinking it’s going to be a problem solver but all it does is create an extra trip to HD to return it. It’s too long for the strips that LOOK like they would fit and your only other option is to buy the bigger ones and cut them to size which is just wasteful. Such a scam.

3M 3-1/4 in. x 8-3/4 in. Drywall Hand Sander was used to convert recessed kitchen light to a doomed light fixture with a new fan. The hand sander is ideal for sanding drywall and painted walls. Use for hard to reach areas and flat wall sanding. Sheets are easily attached to the sanding tool handle. Comes with a variety of different courses of sandpaper that is precut of different grit to fit the handle.
Tool - 8 3/4. sandpaper 3 2/3 X 9. Sheet has to fold backward to be secured on each end. The sandpaper for this tool is not long enough to do this, rendering this tool useless.

Real deal hand sander. Not too heavy and not too flimsy. Good quality synthetic rubber shoe that may actually last. Hand has a very good non-slippery grip, so you will not end up with blisters even after long sanding jobs. One problem is that there's no suggestion on the packaging about sand paper sheet size it should be used with. The shoe pad size was given as 3-1/4 x 8-3/4. I wrongly thought that 3-2/3x9 would fit. Indeed I have power sander that accepts 4x4 sand sheets. Even though the sander pad is literally 4x4 and sheets are labeled 4x4 their actual size is slightly larger to overlap lock springs. 3-2/3x9 is the actual size and sheet doesn't overlap sander locks. You need 3-2/3x11. I didn't see this size offered by my local HD so I grab 9x11 and was just cutting larger sheets to fit. It's quite a waste as you will only get 2 sheets and throw 2-1/3x9 leftover to the trash if you don't don't to ruin rubber pad. Other than initial confusion with sand paper size I have no complaints so far.

3M 3-1/4 IN. X 8-3/4 IN. DRYWALL HAND SANDER works great. Lightweight sander. Easy to load sand paper. Using on dry wall and handy to sand surfaces easily. Came with 220 grit sandpaper (purple) which was perfect for sanding the dry wall after spackling. The the sand paper did not fit the hand sander; it would need to be longer. I liked the sand paper very much for the dry wall.

This is the first time I've used a hand sander, and I really like 3M's version. Obviously, there's something I don't quite get, yet, as I couldn't get the sanding sheets to fit the hand sander. However, since the sanding sheets are "grippy", I was able to attach one at each end, and then the hand sander made quick work of my little table project (see photos). Having the hand sander gave me a lot more strength, and my hand didn't get tired. Hopefully, someone with a little more experience will let me know what the attachment secret is! (I'm betting it's something embarrassingly easy). This tool is very well-made and easy to clean.
