Q:Why does this wood have a prop 65 warning? It appears to be solid and untreated.

Answer This Question

A:  Great Question! All wood products must contain a Prop 65 warning if sold in the state of California. The wood dust created by its handling, or processing, even without chemical treatment, is known to the State to be a cause of cancer.

A:  Home Depot doesn't carry lumber at that large of a dimension. You will need to get with a lumber mill for something that large.

A:  a 12 x 12 is a specialty product, you can ask your local home depots pro's desk if it can be special ordered. or you can google 12 x 12 timber post.

A:  Hi Mike! The edges on this product are rounded the same way you would expect on a standard 2x4. We hope it works for your project!

A:  I think that would be a personal preference. Personally I would prefer treated for outside projects, you can stain treated wood after a few months. We used this for an inside project.

          by|Apr 24, 2018

A:  Unless you plan to put the swing set in a covered area, I would use treated instead. That or stain this and treat it with a water sealer yearly.

            by|May 8, 2018

A:  Pressure treated doesn't stain or accept stain well but is good for outdoors. You can buy the non-pressure treated, stain and then use a weather proof coating to protect, but use annually. This wood is too beautiful to paint, staining is a must. The 4x4s are a good option for a swing set as they are sturdy and stronger than the little metal posts that come with a traditional swingset.

            by|Mar 13, 2018

A:  Douglas fir is a softwood. It's stable and I don't see why you couldn't use it for an A-frame set. The only issue would be longevity. Treated wood stands up better in the weather but if you finish it after staining with something like Thompson's Water Seal, it should last for a while.

Pretty decent and straight! If I can be honest, I’d rather have untreated pine 4x4s but because I’m painting these, the pinkish color will be ok.
