Product Details

Make cleaner cuts with the Cutting Edge Tools (CET) Diverting Blade Replacement Kit. Outfit your 5/16 in. fiber cement shears with these blades for effortless, clean cuts every time. A patented extension on the blades coils excess material away, resulting in fewer stops for material removal and easier operation of your fiber cement shears with a clear view of the cut line. By diverting excess HardiePlank or HardieBacker material away while cutting, CET blades prevent jamming and obscured views of the cut line, which are the 2 most common issues associated with classic fiber cement shears. These blades fit most standard 5/16 in. fiber cement shears on the market including, but not limited to: DEWALT D28605 5/16 in. Variable Speed Fiber Cement Siding Shear, PacTool International model SS424, PacTool International model SS504 and PacTool International model SS420 Shear.

Q:Will this fit the original Snapper Lite SS302 from the year 1998 ?

Answer This Question

A:  Months ago I contacted PacTools in Kingston WA, the marketer of the Snapper fiber cement cutter shears, which was recently purchased by General Tools. They verified that this older model shears used a different blade assembly. The new and improved version of the replacement blades were reversible, so it was good for double the life of the originals. PacTools has probably the best customer experience I have ever experienced and they took care of the problem and at a reasonable cost too.

A:  If that shear takes the same replacement blades as the newer snapper models (e.g. SS404), then it would fit.

A:  This is not a good forum to ask such a question. The person who sells these should be able to help you. He put a very nice note in the box mine arrived in.

These replacement blades fit perfectly into my Dewalt fiber cement shear. I have model D28605. The blades are only slightly different in shape than the factory original, and seem to cut and remove the waste just as good. Cutting with these types of shears are basically dustless. There is not dust in the air but there is dust chips lift on behind. These blades made about the same about of debris. They are black in color compared to the silver bare metal color of the Dewalt original ones. I don't know if that is something applied to the steel, or a modified material. It reminds me of malleable pipe. But malleable steel is a property that allows the steel to be hammered into a shape without breaking. I don't know if that is what this is. If so, I only wonder if it is softer and thereby will dull faster. Too early to tell, and my guess is that it is not malleable. It should be a hardened steel, or at least that is what my guess would be.

I don't cut a lot of fiber cement boards. I used to use a grinder. When I saw a battery powered cutter in my HD , I fell in lust. I wound up buying a corded one from a place in downtown Memphis. It has served me well. The blades on it are reversible, so I was not ready for a new set. However, in keeping with the spirit of what my obligations are in the Seeds program, I installed the new blades, bought a scrap piece of Hardiplank from the Depot, and chopped it up. I cannot attest to longesvity at this point. I cannot tell any difference in functioning between these blades and the ones that were on my cutter to start with. I certainly can't recommend buying these and keeping them around until you need them, but I would say or do nothing to deter you from getting a set if the time is right. Mine have been repackaged and are hanging on my pegboard.

These are awesome! I would definitely recommend these for anyone using fiber cement shears. I'll be using these from now on because they allow me to work without stopping all the time. No more jamming!
