Please describe HOW this device works - the electrical theory behind it. Your existing description tells WHAT it does, but does not clarify to the average person what "Hots Bridged" means and why using a "Hots Bridged" adapter is safe and effective when connecting a 120VAC generator to a licensed electrician-installed, 4-prong twist lock 125/250VAC outdoor power inlet box that is wired to a 220 volt dedicated breaker in the building's electrical panel (a common ploy that obviates the need for a costly transfer switch as long as the homeowner understands and carefully follows the correct sequences for shutting off the main breaker, and manually engaging/disengaging various appropriate circuit breakers in their panel.) 4-prong inlet boxes are often installed because of an expectation that only a high-output 120VAC/250VAC generator would likely be used for home backup power, but in fact, many 120v 30A inverter generators are being sold today, advertised "for RV or Home Backup", by Home Depot and other big box stores who do not provide much guidance for homeowners who don't want to run 3-prong extension cords from a generator, through an open door or window, into their home, but rather want a through-the-wall outdoor plug that feeds 120VAC power into their electrical panels to feed power to 120V devices only (keeping 220V dryer, water heater, A/C, pool pump, etc. breakers OFF for obvious reasons.) In my case, the home I bought was already equipped with a 4-prong power inlet box - I carefully shopped for and purchased an inverter generator that has all the features I wanted, with the power to run a few 1120VAC household devices only, but only after getting the generator did I realize there would be an issue connecting a 3-prong generator to a 4-prong power inlet box.

Ok so I am not an electrician so hopefully somebody that knows will answer. I am buying this for the exact same reason as you are as I am not going to power anything 240v with my inverter generator. The inverter generator is supplying a single phase hot wire. If your gen trans is only wired to 120v circuits then this should work it will make the connection and supply single phase 120 through both hot lines (red and black) coming in through the 4 prong connection. I think that problems will arise if you try to use this get 240v, which you simply won't be able to because you have single phase. If you were going to use this then I would get rid of that 240v circuit and add in another 120.

I have a 3-prong receptor for my electric stove (home built in 1996). I have just purchased a new electric stove with a 4-prog plug. Will this adapter allow me to get my stove working? Are there any concerns I should be aware of?
