About This Product

The AMDRO Fire Ant Killer Bait kills the queen fast and destroys the fire ant mound. Once you distribute a circle of fire ant bait around the mound, it is only a matter of time before the worker fire ants share it with the queen. After the queen eats it and dies, her colony dies with her. The ant granules are designed for individual mound treatment but can also be used for broadcast application in outdoor areas, for total ant control.

A:  I have used a large container the next season but it does not seem to be as attractive to the nest. Just my observation not a study.

A:  I have used it for several years after opening with the same as new effectiveness.

A:  This is my experience with this product. I don't use a whole bottle of it in one season so I make sure the lid is tightly secure and store it in a cool dry place. I have used it for three seasons and it work just as good three seasons later as the first. This will be my fourth season and I'll be using it up this go round. Hope this helps.

A:  I've used it for several years after opening with no apparent loss of effectiveness.

A:  Short answers: Not immediately. And yes. Amdro loses its attractiveness to ants (and hence effectiveness) as it goes 'stale'. That said, I have opened and unopened Amdro in the barn that is several years old, and it still works. I always seal my open working container with a piece of plastic under the screw-on cap (like a sandwich bag, or piece of plastic wrapping) to keep moisture out. I have tried to carefully peel the existing foil seal and push it back into the cap, but my success on that procedure is limited.

              Bottle comes 2/3 empty!
I have used Amdro Ant Bait products for quite a while now and in my past experience it does get rid of the ant colonies. This latest bottle I am returning un-used, therefore I cannot testify to its effectiveness. The reason for my 1 star review is for the deceiving size of the bottle compared to the amount of product that was in it. 60% of the container is empty air!! Don't waste your time...get the larger size or shop for an alternate brand.

                Does not work
Applied product liberally to mound and to a long trail of ants proceeding from that mound. 24 hrs later, no change at all (except ants walking around Amdro granules). Applied Spectricide Fire Ant Mount Destroyer -- mound dead within 30 minutes. Bottle says "Guaranteed to work or your money back" but there is no method to redeem this guarantee. Hollow marketing ploy.

                  Amdro for fire ants
Read all the instructions before you plan your attack. Remember to not disturb the actual hill around the ant tunnels as you spread the Amdro around the area. Don't spread when you are going to water or rain is expected. Expect to repeat the treatment more than once. Some of the hills are gone in a matter of a few days, others are more persistent. There can be multiple queens in one ant hill and if they are not all dead, the ants won't be gone. Repeat the treatments in between your watering schedule as new hills reappear or persistent ones remain. Be vigilant, as the ants seems to spread rapidly if not destroyed. One hill last year turned into 8-10 this year. Buy the large container!

Ants just go by it. They aren’t eating it or taking it to the queen. Very diapointed!!!

The Amdro bait significantly slowed down the spring crop of fire ants. They had just started to forage so were good and hungry. Took every last piece into the mounds.
