What size is it -really?
There seems to be no documents available that provide actual dimensions for sizing and centering the unit in your firebox. I even contacted the manufacturer directly.
We purchased the 24" model. The burner pan of the unit is 18" wide and 6" front to back; so its center is 9" side to side. However, in order to center the unit, the gas valve and controls add 6" to the right side. So to have the 24" model centered in your fireplace, the center of the fireplace has to be 15" (9" + 6") from the right hand side at the back of the burner pan. That's means the fireplace has to be 30" wide where the back side of the burner pan sits. Be sure you allow for 9" to 12" from the back of the burner pan to the front of the fireplace for the grate to sit over the burner pan to hold the logs. The instructions indicate that with the grate forward the flames are more prominent from the logs; if it is further back, the ember bed is featured.
I would interpolate the 18"model to have a 12" pan and the 30" would be 24"

Really happy with these gas logs! We were able to follow directions and hook them up to a gas line that was newly piped into my previously wood burning fireplace. We converted from wood burning to gas, and bought these logs. They look very realistic and I am happy that I chose the remote option too. Sure the controls are upfront, but that is because you still have to reach in and turn the pilot gas flame on or off... so that isn’t an issue for me. If you didn’t want the cords or boxes visible to show you can easily spread the sand provided with the kit to hide any wires. Once we put the fireplace grill back on you can’t see the control unit at all, it’s really very small. You do NOT need an electrical outlet for this product. The flame height is remote operated, and the box it communicates to is battery operated. So simple to use and we were pleased to not need to install an electrical outlet in addition to having the gas line ran. Would definitely recommend! Worked perfectly for our wood to natural gas conversion.

Fireplace does not a have way to hide or cover the control elements thus spoiling the visual look. The installer turned off the gas at the meter but did Not check on my gas water heater and we had to pay extra to have the pilot light turned back on.

This American Gas Log set was a replacement for our old set of gas logs which had developed a leak at the turn-on valve. We hired a professional to install these logs and the installation went quickly and smoothly until trying to get the receiver to identify the remote. The installer has installed gas logs with remotes many times, and no matter what, he could not get the receiver and remote to pair. I am happy with the amount of heat and the attractiveness of the logs when burning, but I am dismayed that we can not use the remote!

This is a fantastic log and burner set! It produces the most realistic burning wood look that I have ever seen from a gas fireplace setup. The kit comes with everything needed for most installations (minus perhaps a brass adapter depending on your gas supply line). The kit includes hand painted ceramic logs that truly look like real burning wood. Additionally, the supplied rock wool glows when heated to mimic the look of a coal bed.
Once installed with the pilot light lit, the fireplace is completely remote operated. With the press of a button you can turn it on/off, and increase/decrease the flame size. This is an incredibly nice feature for anyone who enjoys a hands off approach to lighting their fireplace. I still cant believe how great this set looks and how easy it is to operate. Simply excellent!
