About This Product

The Aura Gravity Retrofit Ventilator is an ideal replacement for an outdated turbine. The Aura Gravity Vent operates on the principle of the Venturi Effect. When the wind blows against the outer louvers of the vent, it creates an upward draft, allowing air to flow out freely. Even the gentlest breeze can create exhaust ventilation. The Aura Gravity Ventilator also leverages the Stack Effect to enhance roof ventilation. The Stack Effect occurs when hot air naturally rises and escapes through the roof vent. One of the major drawbacks of traditional roof wind turbines is their susceptibility to worn-out bearings, which lead to malfunctioning or even seizing over time. Not only does the Aura Vent withstand the test of time, but it also remains fully operational. Its vertical louvers act as a barrier against rain, snow, insects, and animals, ensuring that only air flows through the vent. The Aura Gravity Vent Retrofit is designed to be a hassle-free replacement for existing attic vents. Installation is quick and straightforward with a retrofit vent head that fits over a base of the same diameter. One of the standout advantages of the Aura Gravity Vent Retrofit is its maintenance-free operation. Unlike traditional roof wind turbines that require regular inspections, lubrication, and potential repairs, this vent's design eliminates the need for such upkeep. Upgrade your roof ventilation system with the Aura Gravity Vent Retrofit and experience the difference it can make.

Q:Can these vents be installed on a new metal roof? We are planning on having a new metal roof installed and are interested in adding at least two of these vents. The standard ridge vent will also be installed.

    Answer This Question

A:  If the standing seams on the roof are greater than 18" apart, than yes you can use this vent. The flanges are not made to straddle these seams. And you cannot use an Aura vent in conjunction with a ridge vent because the ridge vent will then become an intake vent.

These are a great direct replacement for the outdated Whirlybird. It took 10 min. In total, to remove the old one and install the new one. (Self-tapping screws included)

        It does the job.
I live in Los Angeles where most rooftop vents on single family homes are rotating turbines, however, turbine bearings can wear out to the point of non-repairable and leaving big old non-rotating turbine gaps on the roof for small animals to get in. I saw bunch of folks in Florida get these fixed type vents, not sure if this is designed for So Cal, but I cannot see why not, and we don't have hurricanes here. Anyways, the installation is easy, they fit right onto the 12-inch base with no problem. Not sure why a few folks said the vent is too small to fit, you should not have the problem as the base mouth is scalloped, thus you can easily lay it over the base. The 1/4-inch screws that come with the vent do not have notches for flat or philip screw drivers, I used the 1/4-inch socket fitted with screw driver handle to drive the screws in. Also, the points of the screws are machined like drill bits, so they can be self-drilling into the metal sheet, you do not need to pre-drill holes with power drill to drive the screw in. I did not use any power tool to install the two vents I bought. I would recommend this product because it has no moving parts, looks pretty nice and modern, but I think they are 10 dollars more than they should charge. I installed the vent on Dec. 18, 2020.

I live in NM and had to deal with high winds ripping the regular turbines off my roof. I've had these on for a couple of years and haven't had any problems at all. They are sturdy, easy to attach,...probably didn't take five minutes to put one on. Took longer to get my ladder up and get on the roof than to replace the existing turbine and put the new ventilator on. I don't have to worry about putting covers on those spinning turbines anymore in the fall in preparation for blizzards and more high winds. If you've ever had to get on your roof and replace one of those regular turbines or had to cover up the hole after the wind blew it off in the middle of a rain storm or blizzard, then you might appreciate one of these. We've had wind gusts up to seventy miles an hour and they're solidly attached.

Bought two and installed them in less than 2 hours (I wasn't in a hurry it was a nice day as well). To order the right size I measured the existing vent pipe circumference using a dress makers cloth measuring tape. A 12" vent should be around 37-3/4" and a 14" vent should be around 44". Removed 3 screws each the old turbine vents. The new vents fit very snugly over the existing vent base. I found that giving the new vent cap a gentle slight clockwise turn (in my case less than 1/8th of a turn) while pressing down did the trick of getting them on. As opposed to just trying to press down to get them on. This worked for me and I'm not sure if this is what the manufacturer intended. I supplied four #8 x 5/8" self tapping screws each. I found that the self tapping screws cut thru the new vent collar well but I couldn't get them to bite into the existing vent pipe resulting in the screw pushing in the existing vent pipe, so I drilled a 7/64" pilot hole for all the screws. Lastly using clear GE Silicone I filled in the screw holes where the old turbines attached (the new collar didn't completely cover them). We get a lot of wasps, heat, high winds, and hail here. They fit well so I think they will withstand winds better than the turbines I had. The inner louvers "should" keep the wasps out. The metal is a decent gauge so we will see about hail. So far I like them and the price was reasonable.

This turbine retrofit vent works fine, but the description of the item said the paint was "Powder Coated" on aluminum, but the one that I received from my purchase DID NOT have "Powdered Coated" paint as it was advertised. The paint was very easy to come off even I pre-drilled the holes on the collar of the vent before I placed the screws to secure the vent onto the turbine base. There was no "Powdered Coated" paint on the entire unit - they simply sprayed the paint onto the smooth aluminum surface without roughing the surface before they painted the unit which is a very poor manufacture practice. Painting aluminum without roughing the surface will allow the paint to peel of very easily from my experience. I called Active Ventilation about this issue with the pictures taken from the installation, and they told me that they would warranty the paint for up to five years. However, with the changes in the weather being hot and cold in Texas, I don't think the paint will last. I am very disappointed to see the way the manufacturer painted this unit. See the attached pictures for more details.

Works well. Used it to replace a whirlybird vent that hasn't worked in 18 years. The new vent made the house 10 degrees cooler and rain cant get in the top like the original vent. No more condensation on all the windows and the skylight which means no more mold from the condensation adding up on the sills. My family and i can breath much better. Very easy to remove the old vent head and replace with this one. I highly recommend this vent.

I purchased qty-2 of these to replace a couple of roof turbines that were damaged during Hurricane Irma. Living in South Florida, I really should have removed the turbines and capped them off when the storm was imminent, but didn't. As a result, one roof turbine was blown off. The other was damaged. Looking to avoid such issues going forward, I sought a solution where there were no moving parts, protection from rain and critters. After reading the reviews on this product, it seemed worth trying, especially with Home Depot's easy return policy waiting in the wings. Little to lose. They arrived undamaged and surprisingly very well built. Strong inner mounting area that slide perfectly over my existing 12" riser (for lack of better words). The outer portion of the unit that extends away from the mounting area is equally well built. The inner portion uses tightly formed slots for better protection. Each unit ordered arrived with self-tapping color-matched screws and installation directions (though I decided to use my own larger screws for greater strength). I've yet to go into the attic to see if there's any difference in temperature (cooler) as other reviews have stated, but I'm optimistic. Installing took literally 3 minutes per unit. While mounted on their bases, I drilled 3 small holes (smaller than the screws being used) in a triangle pattern about the bases of the units to serve as tapping holes, and then installed the screws. Super tight fit. They look much better than my previous weather beaten damaged roof turbines (pictured) and match my brown house very nicely.

These retrofit turbines are great and easy to install on existing turbine roof stacks. I did have to drill pilot holes in the existing stacks to ease the task of screwing vents to them I replaced three turbines in less than an hour. After ordering these on-line from Homedepot they were here in three days undamaged. No more listening to the old turbines squeaking in strong winds or not turning at all in gentle winds. They seem to vent the attic as well or better than the turbines and don’t let the rain in at all. Wish I had known about these years ago!
