Does this tub have any kind of a pad or feet on the bottom of it, or does it sit flat on the subfloor?

No pad or feet sits directly on the subfloor and a 2 x 4 mounted to the wall.

what is the material for this Cambridge 5 ft Americast bathtub

This tub is NOT cast iron, and it's not fiberglass or acrylic. As the manufacturer stated, it's enameled steel (porcelain enamel over steel). It has a foam sprayed onto the back that makes it better insulated (for warmth and sound) than plain steel tubs. I am really happy with this tub! The depth is luxurious without being too deep like many fiberglass tubs are, it keeps water warm a long time, similarly to cast iron, and it looks like cast iron. Another plus is that two men can manipulate the thing up a flight of stairs instead of the 4 required for cast iron. The tub has a timeless simplicity to it and fit nicely into the 1920s age of my house. Looks great with subway tile

Yes that is true. I didn't have trouble tiling since I started one course up (not directly on top of the tub) and I set it up so that the tile in the middle of the tub was a full tile. But yes I had to cut tiles to match with the top edge of the tub. It is a bit more challenging than if the top edge of the tub was straight.

What is depth measurement? Why aren’t they listed on all your tubs?

Answers

Sh, Thanks for the question on the American Standard Cambridge tub, the water depth to the overflow is 12-5/8". If you scroll down to the Info and Guides Section you can find the link to the product specification sheet which will show you additional information and measurements. My tub just arrived. The finish isn’t like my fiberglass one. It’s more of a hammered look.Is it supposed to be like that?

Yes. Its porcelain on steel, which has that hammered look, but when installed looks just fine.

Americast is an exclusive, patented material used in American Standard bathtubs. It is American Standard's unique patented process that fully bonds a high quality porcelain surface with an enameling grade steel and a molded reinforcement composite backing.

Be aware this is a very poor quality tub, after setting tile, the masking tape PULLED the paint? off. Making a TOTAL redo of my bath to be done. Very poor piece of junk.

Probably not.. this tub is 60 inches long..and in my case I had to install the overflow drain prior to instaling the tube,,due to no access to install the drain once the tub was in position..this made it necessary to "tip" the tub into place ..which required me to remove the back wall and rebuild it after setting the tub..also this tub is 18 inches deep .In your case you will need to relocate the spigot and water control valve to a higher location. Also it is 32 inches wide.. you will have to relocate your drain an inch to the right...but it all can be done...just a LOT of work. It would not be a direct replacement

Love it!
I am really glad we purchased this tub. I wanted a deep tub that was heavy duty, metal and insulated. We replaced a walk-in shower with the tub so our little boy could have bath time. I also like to soak on occasion. This tub is perfect for a good soak! I searched online for a long time before deciding and I’m glad I chose this one! Have it delivered to your home!

Warranty Issue
Purchased about 15 years ago based on plumbers recommendation. About 3 years ago, rust stains started to appear and only get worse. I figured the lifetime warranty on a manufacturer defect would cover this. But American Standard wanted a receipt. I am one to save receipts but can’t find this one from 15 years ago. Obviously product defect. Or worse, this what happens to the tub eventually. Should have purchased a real cast iron tub. Won’t trust American Standard on any product in the future.

Bought this tub in 2013, The finish has completely worn away and it has rusted at the overflow drain. It looked nice for about a year. The water line and dirt cannot be cleaned or removed with anything I have tried. I cleaned it according to manufacture directions and sadly the finish did not hold up at all. Having to rip it out and completely redo the tub and tile area. I would not recommend this tub.

I bought this tub for a bathroom renovation post-Katrina. Soon after installation I found that the patterned slip-resistant surface attracted dirt which was able to be removed with firm scrubbing. Now it is nearly impossible to remove, even with Comet. It is always looking filthy.

NOLA70124, thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with removing dirt from the slip resistant surface. Comet is not a recommended product to clean the tub with as it can create fine grooves in the finish and cause dirt to collect more easily. Under normal use soap and water can be used. For more stubborn stains on the slip resistant surface use powdered Spic'NSpan or BonAmi. Wet the Surface sprinkle the powder and clean with a soft nylon bristle brush and rinse. If you need any further assistance please contact us directly through the American Standard website "Contact Us" located at the bottom of our home page so we can assist you. Sincerely, American Standard Customer Care Tech Team AmericanStandard

Very pleased since I ordered this without being able to see it beforehand. Feels very solid and durable (no concern about standing on the edge of it). I'm not sure what the material actually is but it seems like a cast iron (or at least has that "feel" about it.) Arrived in excellent condition and was installed without any chips or other marks. Nice deep tub for soaking. Retained the heat from the water when taking a hot bath. Also retained the water until I undid the plug. There is some kind of thin non-slip surface in the bottom tub interior but you don't really see it - if you run your hand over it you can tell but otherwise it blends in well with the other material. All in all a quality product.

I debated between a Bootzcast tub and this tub for a long time and feel I made the right choice. This tub has a classic, clean look and is a nice depth- luxurious compared to a standard 8 inch soaking depth, but also not so tall as to make it difficult to climb in and out of. I used this tub to update a bathroom with a look to suit the age of my house (1920) and think it looks great- only an experienced eye would be able to tell it's a steel tub and not cast iron. I would highly recommend this product. I had help from a contractor installing it- it took 2 people to get it up the stairs and into place but installation went very smoothly without surprises. Remember to line the tub with cardboard to protect it from screws and thuds during tiling, etc.

This is an excellent bath tub. Much better than the cheaper fiberglass or acrylic tubs and will maintain its finish much longer. We had to return our first installation attempt. The first tub had an unfinished backside surface that was damaged at the drain location. We ordered another tub and Home Depot refunded the original purchase without difficulty. The replacement tub had a much better, or semi finished backside surface and installed without any issues. We would definitely use his tub again and highly recommend it to new customers.
