If you ask me, don't buy this. Buy a battery operated edger. I got a Ryobi and I got a 18 volt, 6 mAh battery. Works well and makes edging fast in less than 5 mins. This manual one used to take like 30 mins with a lot of effort and never gave me the professional look.

is there adjustable heights ?

It could be that the little cutting blades that are on the outside of the wheels are now bent (they can be bent too easily) and are now blocking the rotation of the wheel. You can bend them back out again, but once you start bending back the metal blades, they become easier to bend once again if you hit a rough patch on the lawn edge.

The edger I purchased (May, 2020) has a rubber wheel assembly that is 4 inches in diameter and 3-3/4 inches wide. The metal blade is 6 inches in diameter. Therefore, the depth of the cut from the surface that the rubber wheels contact is 1 inch.

I only use mine on lawn edges bordering on sidewalks and driveways. So I don't have any experience with it in your situation. But I don't see why it wouldn't work for your lawn bordered by a flower bed.

Can you replace the blades and if so where can they be purchased from

I don't think that the blades can be replaced; but at the low price for the unit coupled with the fact that the blades should last for years, you really don't need to sharpen them.

Does it need to be sharpened

I don't believe that blades can be - or will need to be - sharpened.

Frustrating
The grass gets all jammed up after about 3 feet of edging, so you have to constantly stop to clear it out. The 'blades' are not sharp at all, so the edge line is really more chewed up looking than a clean cut. It works best when the grass is wet.

Didn't even get out of the store with it.
I was just up at Home Depot picking up a few things. One of those being this rotary edger. Trimming with the weed eater cleans up around the edges of the sidewalk, but it doesn't give that crisp, sharp edge that helps make a yard look so nice. There was one left and I thought I was in luck... until I took it down from the rack. It was caked with dirt! Someone purchased this edger, tried it out and returned it and Home Depot didn't even bother to try to clean it up before tossing it back up to try to sell again. I tried turning the wheels, as others have mentioned stiffness in rotating. The wheels were stiff, but I don't think unmanageable. The wheels would lock up and not turn whatsoever in the other direction. I didn't even make it out of the aisle, much less the store with this item... verified non-purchase.

this works
The initial edge is difficult to cut. But once cut, keeping it trim should be much easier. Working with soft soil a day after a rain is a must and I had to clear debri from the blades a couple times. Expect to pull back for momentum then push forward half as much for each stroke to break through the soil. I’m a 130 pound woman of 55 years and I was able. The resulting edge is sharp which string edgers can only leave a round edge. No way to hang it from the handle so I didn’t give 5 stars.

Be Still My Beating Heart ... Glad to have a 'green' alternative to edge the yard. First use was cutting through overgrown, dampish crabgrass ... on a yard that had existing edger ruts ... was a little tough but found the edger worked best if I let it do the work, instead of me forcing the blade to cut through grass. Second use for upkeep was a breeze. Great price, solid tool, ordered online for in-store pick-up, ready a couple days early.
