Q:How long does the caulk stay tacky after application? I special ordered this so it was fresh (only a month past manufacture), and the tube says it's paintable in two hours, but it's been 24 hours and the darn stuff is still very tacky. Is this normal?

Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry. For best results apply Andersen Sealant between 10°F and 110°F. If temperature exposure goes above 110°F, sealant viscosity may lower and run. Place sealant in a cool place to raise viscosity. Conversely, if sealant is below 10°F, sealant may not pump properly and must be warmed for best application results. For further product related questions, please contact Andersen's Homeowner Hotline at 1-888-888-7020.

A:  That doesn't answer my question, Andersen Windows. I read everything on your website, on the tube, and already talked to your hotline and got nowhere. This is the second tube of this caulking I've used that never stopped being tacky to the touch.

        Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry to Andersen® Windows. It should be a very close match to Andersen white windows. Please visit your local Home Depot or call our Solution Center at 888-888-7020 if you have any further questions. --Megan

A:  There are a whole lot of "shades of white" if you look at a color pallet in the paint department for all brands of paint so "Andersen White" is a somewhat nebulous description. In my experience, it has a slight gray tone to it rather than glossy white. My windows were not Andersen brand so I didn't make that connection as my window trim was also a very slight gray. Hope this is helpful. The only real way to know if it matches Andersen white paint is to go to the paint department and see what a sample of that paint looks like when dry.

A:  Color match is good, hard to gun as it was out of shelf life.

Q:Is this non-toxic? Also, is it temporary? Looking to seal basement windows but don't want to permanently seal them shut (we're trying to keep crickets from getting in). We maybe need to open the windows once every five years so we also don't want a product which will basically dry up and disintegrate within a year making us constantly have to redo it.

            Answer This Question

A:  It does have some toxic properties. See the Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for exact details. It can be downloaded from Home Depot's website for this item. It does remain somewhat flexible so I don't expect that it dries out and has to be replaced from drying but you will have to cut it away when you want to open the windows as you describe.

A:  this is an excellent caulk. dont eat it. you could expect this to be removable at the 5 year period. i would expect it to keep the crickets out.

            by|Apr 5, 2019

A:  No, the product is not non toxic. The other information you requested is not currently available.

            by|Nov 19, 2018

A:  Hi GSDchi, It is approved for use, but is does have toxic effects (see SDS): Classification in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.1200. Toxic to Reproduction, Category 2 Hazardous to the Aquatic Environment - Acute Hazard, Category 3 Hazardous to the Aquatic Environment - Chronic Hazard, Category 3 >Also, is it temporary? I would say it is permanent - you install it and want it to last for years. Sorry, did not get what you exactly trying to achieve (crickets, not permanent seal, etc.) I think you need to formulate the goals better and do your own research (key words that may help you: window net, pest control, LambdaStar UltraCap, etc.). Hope it helps!

Easy to apply and great promising at least upon application sealant! Used caulk gun to puncture opening and apply. No issues: applies well, dry well, seals well. Though, there is one negative moment - I do not have Andersen windows and now learned that "Anderson white" is actually normal light grey color. I applied it to seal the window crack in our bedroom. Once I noted the color differences, I immediately cleaned it off. Can use it only on large cracks and will have to cover with real white sealant (or paint). So, good performing product, but not accurate color "code". Happy DIYing!

I obtained this caulk to be utilized in replacing a couple of windows. And I have been waiting for the weather to improve up at the cottage in northern Michigan. So I decided to do a preliminary test by caulking my newly installed granite counters. It looks quite good. The flow from the cartridge and caulk gun was nice and smooth. It holds it's form well. It has good adhesion. The removeable nozzle is going be nice for saving unused caulk. Odor is not bad. Cleaned up with Isopropyl alcohol.

Andersen Windows White Sealant in a 10.1 oz tube fits in a caulk gun to dispense. It has an unusual top that looks odd, but after thinking about it, it is a great design where you can remove the nozzle to clean it out if you have not used it up the first day. I have some of those cases that allow you to store the sealant tube and it not dry up, so the removable nozzle allowing cleaning is great. The sealant flowed smoothly out of the long 3.5” nozzle and clinged to the wood surface nicely, so it forms a good seal. I needed to paint it and it took that easily. Cleanup went well. You can use it 10 degrees up to 110. I have applied a lot of caulk and can say without a doubt this is an excellent door and window caulk.

High quality adhesive/sealant for use on windows and doors in bright white. I like the way it flows from the tube from a caulking gun. Another feature is the nozzle is removable so that you can cap the tube and clean out the nozzle if the contents isn't completely used at one application. It dries and is paintable after one hour and remains flexible. One tube can seal several windows depending upon the size of the bead. Much better than other brands I have used.

Works as expected. Checked manufacture date prior to purchase to avoid issues others have reported with "hardened" product. Purchased to comply with Anderson window installation recommendations for warranty compliance.
