The key figure for determining the need for taller top post, is the height of attachment at the bottom of the rail, and your setback from the nose of the stair. At the bottom of the stair, remember that your attachment point is a bit higher on the bottom post; while keeping in plane with the angle, as you still need to add the extra drop to the post base point. On this post you do your measurement on the inside face, as that is the attachment point. Best to lay a straightedge or non warped 2x4 along the noses of the stairs, figure your desired clearances, and check where your line of plane intersects the post/rail attachment points. That will tell whether you have a good looking end result or if the top of the rail is ending up in the ether above the post top.
The brackets work regardless of stair angle. However, in my case, I had difficulty mounting the bottom post upper brackets because of the sharp angle of the screw versus railing. I found that it was much easier to install upper brackets, mount rails to those brackets, then mark the location of the brackets on the bottom post. I then removed the post to install the brackets. Align the brackets up with railing ends then reinstall the post.
Yes. Use this with the Aria Posts and with some Tap Cons they can be secured to concrete.
Be glad it’s out of stock. I’m returning as many as I can. Cheap
Jake - It will be on composite treads mounted on pre-cut PT stair stringers. Depending on the placement I am considering placing a wood block below the composite to help secure it like I did for boat cleats. Bottom line it will be fastened to composite and wood.
Its each post--one post per order.
Aznor-this does have some "play" so it can be adjusted several inches. We also recommend using the 42" posts for stair rails.
We use a hidden fastener system in our deck railing panels. We don't recommend using these with other posts.
