Q:Can you use this as the sealer on drywall that?s been damaged down to the brown paper layer? Seal with this prior to joint compound?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Louis, thank you for your question. Our products can be used on your surface so long you will not be coating over bare gypsum board. In that case, the drywall will need to be repaired and sealed before priming. Have a great day! -Lina

A:  Hi there, thanks for the question. I wouldn't recommend using our Drywall Primer for priming a dresser. A better choice would be our Kitchen, Bath & trim Primer. Have a great day! -Ronald

Q:Can it be used outdoors even though it doesn't say anything on the front label?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi there, thanks for the question. I wouldn't recommend using our Drywall Primer outdoors. Interior paints and primers shouldn't be used outside because they aren't as flexible as exterior coatings to allow for the movement that can happen from wood and other materials from the heat and humidity. Also, they have fewer mildewcides which are needed because of the exposure to the elements. Have a great day! -Ronald

          Behr makes painting enjoyable
I used this to seal 2,000 sq. ft. of new drywall and a bit of new plywood. I then covered it with Behr interior eggshell paint. The primer seems to have sealed it all and the Behr interior eggshell was a pleasure to cut in & roll on top of it.

          terrible
This did absolutely nothing! It doesn't even look like I primed my walls. Where the spackle joints are, it's like I didn't even touch it with the primer. I can also see paint through it. Terrible. I now get to prime the ceilings and my whole hallway again.

Hi krob, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you did not get the coverage that you expected. Typically, the primer coat will seal the porosity of the surface, even if it's not covering. Once you apply your topcoat, the paint will cover the surface. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our customer care team is happy to help you! -Giovanna Behr

Quality product for a quality result.
This is the only product I use for any sheetrock job. 2 coats are best for a quality result. The short drying time and coverage make this a highly recommended product.

                NO WAY
Did NOT adhere to sheetrock. Application was like smearing honey on the wall. Would not roll, rsther bubbled and sucked up. Sheetrock guy having to cone out and RE-SAND at an additional cost.

Just ok with a good price.
An ok primer that isn’t too thick. I had to do two coats to cover a light yellow to go to white. One thing to note is that it’s not recommended for satin/eggshell topcoats.

Where is the zero star option?
Bought this primer based on recommendation of local Home Depot associate. Going to need 4 coats to cover a 15x15’ room on brand new drywall that was wiped down. Coverage is terrible. Waited days between coats for time to harden. My time is worth more and I should have went with a better quality product. Im going to burn through the entire five gallons and may need more! Never experieced this before with any other product. Horrible waste of time and money

                Hi Joel,

Thank you for reviewing Behr Drywall Plus Primer & Sealer. I'm sorry to hear about the coverage issue experienced. Because the primer will need to be topcoated, there is no need to achieve full coverage with the primer. The new drywall should be sealed now and ready for a top coat to be applied. Please contact Behr's Customer Care Department for further assistance with this matter. We'd love to find a way to help.

                Kindest regards,

                Doris Behr

                  Drywall Primer and Sealer
We have been using this in our house we are renovating and it gets the job done but i hoped for better. I do custom cabinetry so im not new to oainting and priming. In some cases it took five coats with the primer to keep the wood paneling from bleeding through so that we could use regular paint over top. It took two coats to prime drywall for painting - i know this is primarily a drywall primer but i expected it to perform better on wood walls. I think if it were thicker it would cover better. It did better on drywall, but even after two coats you can still see some of the ugly green the previous owner had used. It does take paint well after drying so thats a plus
