Product Details

An advanced exterior stain, combining the best features of oil and latex for superior color retention, adhesion, penetration and durability. It provides a film that is highly resistant to cracking, peeling, blistering, weathering, chalking and erosion. It cleans up easily with soap and water and can be applied over water-based or oil-based paint or primer.

Q:Why does this stain scratch off after drying? I tested a new piece of wood and after 3 days of drying it was easy to just scratch off.

A:  Hi Tina, thanks for the question. Sorry to hear that the House & Fence Stain is easily scratching off after 3 days. Typically it takes 3 days for the coating to completely cure and achieve its full hardness. Darker colors can take a little longer to sure. If you wish to have this stain in a different color, you can select another Behr stain color or bring in a physical sample of the color you want and have a new container custom color-matched to that sample at your local store.             This product does not apply like a stain. On my application I used brush and roller on first coat which allowed some wood grain to show through “stain”. I applied a second coat with spray gun thinning with some water. The consistency of the second coat was great. Very dark color with no bleed through.

            Best Stain Ever!
            Used another store’s brand and after only one season it had to be re-stained. Peeling, color faded, etc. Used Behr fence stain three years ago and the fence still looks like I just did it! Looks like new! Superb product!

              Not what I was hoping for, scratches easily
              after testing this stain on a sample piece of new wood I found that I can easily scratch the stain off . we waited 3 days and the stain seems to be dry. Don't understand why it can scratch off .does not seem to penetrate the wood, only dry on the surface. sad part is that this 5 gal can $160.is non refundable .

                I used this to stain the outside of my raised...
                I used this to stain the outside of my raised garden beds. It was thick and easy to apply with a roller and the deep flat black color looks spectacular. Cleanup was not as easy as I would have liked but it was ok. It did take two coats to get an even result but it went twice as far as noted on the can. I didn’t even have to open the second gallon, I was really surprised. I’m going to use it on a few more projects in the future.
