Q:Can this be used through a hplv sprayer?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Long, thank you for your question. As it turns out, our products are not recommended for use through an HVLP sprayer. When applying the Water-Based Stain & Poly, we recommend using a high-quality nylon/polyester bristle brush, applying thin coats in the direction of the wood grain. Have a great day! - Randy

    Answer This Question

A:  Ho Goonzo, thanks for your question. Yes, our Stain and Poly in One can be applied over an oil-based stain or polyurethane. However, please keep in mind that this is a semi-transparent coating, and the previous color of your project will affect the final color of this stain. Have a great day! -Christina

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi KimT, thank you for your question. As it turns out, our products have not been tested over liquid wood, so this would be experimental. We recommend reaching out to the manufacturer for more information about whether the product is compatible with a water-based stain and polyurethane coating. Have a great day! -Lina

Easy fix to cabinets and drawers
Our finish on our cabinets and drawers was chipped and scratched along edges. I lightly sanded and used several thin coats of this and it looks great. Definitely better than all those quick-fix markers, crayons, etc. We had tried several, and none of them looked good. The espresso color and satin finish matched our cabinets perfectly and looks seemless with the original. Pics show before and after.

Stain In Can DOES NOT MATCH the Color on the Label
Very irritating that you buy a product for the color shown on the label of the container and when you get home it's COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Now you have to drive back to the store to return the product wasting your valuable time and delaying the completion of your project.

Hi RCCat, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that the Mission Oak color didn't turn out as expected when using the Satin Stain and Poly. Typically, the room's lighting and surroundings influence how the color will turn out. Also, as this product is semi-transparent, the tone and character of the original surface will come through and could change the look of the coating after application. Using these samples on your project is a great idea to help determine if the finish is desired. Nonetheless, your satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance. Our customer care team is happy to help you! -Randy Behr
            Terrible product
I’ve been doing woodworking projects for almost 20 years and this is the worst product I’ve ever worked with. Minwax, Varathane, Thompsons, Watco, I’ve used it all. The “quick drying” properties give you zero work time, leaving visible lines and blotches every time you go to dip your brush. Even after sanding and a second coat, patches, lines, and blotches are still visible. I even sanded the first step down to bare wood and retried the stain, but no difference. Do not use this product!

Hi TimN, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear you had this experience when using the Classic Oak Stain and Poly. Please know our goal is to provide a solution to all our customers to help them fix their issues. That said, porous surfaces can absorb the coating's moisture quickly, making it dry faster than it should, and it's always best to pretreat new or raw wood using the Water-Based Pre Stain Wood Conditioner to help provide a uniform acceptance of the stain. Because of the uneven finish, the best option is to sand down, clean, and reapply. If the coating still appears to dry faster than usual, this can be thinned with no more than 1oz of water per quart to help extend the working time. Nonetheless, your satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance. Our customer care team is happy to help you! - Randy Behr

                  Pink tones on light wood
We did not find the color shown on the can matching for 2 layers on light wood. It has a beautiful pink hue, just not what we were going for.

Hi CraftyHome, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that the color didn't turn out as expected. Typically, the room's lighting and surroundings influence the color's appearance. As this product is semi-transparent, the tone and character of the original surface will come through and could change the look of the coating after application. It is a great idea to sample colors first. To fix this, we recommended sanding or using an interior stain and finish stripper, condition the wood using the Water-Based Wood Conditioner, and, once dry, apply a test coat before continuing with the project area. Globs of undissolved solids throughout
I've used similar Minwax products for years and never found this problem before. This is my second time using Behr Stain & Poly. I mixed the product as specified, but there was no way to make the thousands of clumps of solids dissolve back into the stain. After testing on some scrap pieces, I found the altered color to be acceptable and I used it anyway; the final product looks nice.

                      Easy to use, great results.
I ended up wanted the poly protection and went with the pecan stain and poly. I applied it to regular cheap cedar fence pickets for a door and common wood 1x4s for trim. Obviously the wood chosen has a lot to do with the final color. Personally, it doesn't really come out as "pecan" on the cedar but I still like the results. Time will tell on the protection part. I sanded first, applied a coat, sanded with finer paper then did a second coat. 4 instead of a 5 due to too new to tell how long it la

This is a "flat" paint, not stain
This is a paint, wood grain does not show through like the misleading ads showing wood grain. This IS NOT semi-transparent like ad says. This is better suited as a barn paint than a finish for furniture or stain grade molding. When I opened the can it was obvious I had been dupped, so I "painted" a test piece. See attached photo.

                          Be aware of finished color
We love the espresso brown color shown on the can, but it required several coats to cover the front door and oak banister completely. The front door came out almost black. The banister came out very black, not even a hint of brown. Every person who saw it thought it was black paint and no different from the matte black balusters except for the satin finish. It was very frustrating, disappointing, and time consuming to spend all that time thinking the next coat would show the espresso brown we were looking for. Epic fail. Be wary of underlying wood color and poly stain color. If it doesn’t look right coat, stop and try a different color.
