Answer This Question

A:  Hi Jose, thanks for the question. You can use the Water-Based Wood Stain on your kitchen floor, but it would need to be top-coated with a water-based coating to protect it, such as our Water-Based Fast-Drying Polyurethane. Have a great day! -Ronald

Q:Can this be used on countertops?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Misty, thanks for the question. Although our Fast-Drying Interior Wood Stain is a great choice for wood, we don't recommend using it in areas where it may come in contact with food because our products aren't recommended for direct food contact. Also, if it is an area that comes into contact with a lot of cleaning and water, it could reduce the life of the coating. Have a great day! -Ronald

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Theresa, thanks for the question, You can use the Fast-Drying Interior Wood Stain on your bathroom vanity. Before staining, applying the Wood Conditioner first is a good idea so the wood accepts the stain more evenly. If the area gets a lot of use, you can also apply a coat of our Fast-Drying Polyurethane to offer more protection. Have a great day! -Ronald

EASY to work with and NO ODOR!
I don't know what all the complaints are about; this water based stain worked great for our desired look and was EASY to apply (brushed on, ragged off excess)!! Granted, we didn't want a polished, stuffy classic look. We were going for primitive, rustic and barn-like in our 100 year old cabin. We wanted the new pine T&G we installed to look like it had been there the entire 100 years; maybe even look like it used to be a barn. And being winter, NO ODOR helped! We used Early American.

            Project Ruiner
If you have a project that requires more than 5 seconds to wipe the stain off, don't use this. When they say fast drying, they mean really fast. So fast in fact, there literally isn't time to wipe it all off before it has dried at the end of the board you started on. Results in a splotchy mess ruining your project. I threw it out with great pleasure. Will never buy again. Stay away.

Hi Timothy, thank you for your review. Sorry to hear that the Water-Based Stain dried too quickly. This isn't typical. One tip for when the stain is drying too fast, you can add 1 ounce of water per quart to give more working time with the stain. Nice outcome
I stained a table and chairs. I was able to get reasonably similar finish on poplar and oak. I had to apply a few coats and allow time for saturation before wiping the stain to get hood results. I used a pre-stain wood conditioner. Love the water cleanup of these products as the brushes and rags came clean with water. We are good with the final results.

              WORST STAIN EVER
I wanted a quick-drying stain for my stairs so I chose this stain in Jacobean. Now I know to never ever buy a water stain.. stick with oil. Lesson learned. What was supposed to be a medium brown is super dark brown. With 2 coats it’s nearly black. We conditioned pine before painting and it looks absolutely terrible. Very splotchy even after sanding. This little quart of paint is going to cost me days of work to sand off and re-stain. Hopefully my mistake will save you time and money.

Hi Laig, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the splotchy finish and dark color. The Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner will help achieve uniform acceptance of the stain color. We recommend allowing the stain to penetrate for 5-10 minutes before wiping off. The more time the stain is allowed to penetrate, the richer and darker the color will be. Had to learn how to apply this stain
I am accustomed to danish oils, so this was new to me. It took time to apply evenly, and several passes to get an even color. After drying, it looked much better than while wet. Beware "stainable wood filler", the color did not stay even after sanding the filler. This is most likely the fault of the filler on soft fir trim. In my photo you can see the spots in the corners of the trim. The spots are from Deft, that I left a separate review for, very disappointed in the spray nozzles from Deft.

Stain? No. More like milk paint
We checked the chips in the store on the aisle and went ahead and bought two different colors. I tried them on a sample of red oak baseboard that I also bought in the store and applied it according to instructions on the can. It came out more like milk paint. It barely absorbs. It hides the grain. And worst of all, the colors aren't even close to what's on the can or the paint chips. The grey looks like spray-can primer and the ebony looks like black milkpaint. I should have stuck w/ Minwax.

Hi there, thank you for your review. Sorry to hear that the stain seemed more like paint and covered up the grain of the wood. This is not typical, and I can understand your disappointment. To fix the issue, I'd recommend removing the existing stain by sanding or using a stain stripper, Applying a coat of our Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner, and then re-applying the stain from another can. I used the BEHR stain to perk up our Pergola....
I used the BEHR stain to perk up our Pergola. Everything came out beautiful. I was able to match the colors I already had with BEHR stains and followed the directions on the can with drying time and three coats. I did prep the areas I worked on by sanding and washing with TSP (very important if there is any dirt or algae on the wood).

Beautiful color on our doors and trim
Used two coats on Knotty Alder doors amd trim for a beautiful finish. Don't forget to pre treat with a water based prestain wood conditioner clear and finish with 1 coat of water based poly urethane semi gloss

Hi Bocabroker, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that the finish and color did not turn out as expected. The Transparent Wood Stain is designed to add some color, but still allow the wood grain to show through. You have to option of adding a second coat after one hour to darken the color.
