Q:What do I need to do to a pool deck that is covered in cool deck to ensure proper coverage with the patio and deck coatings?
by|Jan 18, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hi PCunn, thank you for your question. To ensure proper coverage when applying the Low-Lustre Porch and Patio Anti-Slip Floor Paint, we recommend applying a minimum of two coats at 75-150 square feet per gallon, using a high-quality 3/8 inch nap roller cover, nylon-polyester brush, or textured sprayer. Have a great day! - Randy

Q:Can this be applied over a water based primer?

    Answer This Question

A:  HI Stephanie, thanks for the question. Yes, our Porch & Patio Floor Paint can be used over a water-based primer. If this is an area that will be walked on, I'd recommend using a primer that can be used in areas that receive foot traffic. Have a great day! -Ronald

Q:If using on a screened patio, can it withstand pressure washing 1-2x a year? Or what can I seal with to ensure that the flooring can be cleaned?

      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Julie, thank you for your question. The Low-Lustre Porch and Patio Floor Paint can be cleaned without applying a sealer on top. Also, it's best to use a concrete or wood coating cleaner, as pressure washing can remove the coating. Have a great day! - Randy

Q:which is better low lustre or gloss for a porch floor?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Anita, thanks for your question. A gloss finish will offer more durability than a low-lustre finish; however, please keep in mind that a glossier finish may become more slippery when wet. Have a great day! -Christina

Great paint for our deck that gets slippery after it snows and turns icy. Easy to use and good coverage relative to the other anti-slip option at HD. Two things I wish I had known before using it: stir often, and be very mindful of what painters call a "wet edge". Both of these things are what pros do all the time, but I didn't know. The deck looked pretty funny the first coat, with all those stripes caused by overlapping wet paint with the dried edge of the swath that I did first; I learned to follow each board all the way across the deck, rather than the easier of first painting the first 3 feet, then the next. It still looks a bit funny, because I didn't stir often. The four feet closest to the house have a ton of gritty texture, because I did them with the end of a can of paint that was only stirred at the beginning of each day of painting. Luckily, this is where I want the traction the most on icy days; but it does look a little funny. Like it wasn't a pro who did the painting. So, I can't blame the paint; but I thought I'd pass on what I learned.

Bought for our deck project, did not disappoint
We used this for the floor and the top railing around the porch and the steps leading up. The project turned out beautifully!

Great textured paint with jus the right amount of traction.
Great textured paint. I used this over wooden planks on a covered porch. When it rains it does not get directly rained on, it only get wet due to blowing rain. I didn't want the porch to be slick in the rain so I used this paint and it has good traction without being to rough.

            I like it but
I used this paint for my basement concrete floor. Any sliding movement of things will scratch the paint. I put 3 coats of paint on it now total because it kept scratching when moving things around. Now that im done moving things, I hit the 3rd coat. It looks great, im just worried about it scratching. Is there any clear protective coat I can put on the floor for protection?

I wasn't sure what I was gonna get with this. But I saw a cool way that a company used two colors of concrete paint to make patterns - they did squares like it was tile, but I figured I could so bricks, with the darker color in the gaps. I wanted to see what I got with the two colors I chose : Pacific Fog and Silver Gray. You can see how I tested them on a stepping stone in the pics. You should use a primer, but I didn't for the stepping stone as it was just a color and paint test. The good news is that while this is very thick it went on easily. It covered really well, too. Notice the two I got look darker on the website. In real life, Pacific Fog is barely gray and very light. Silver is what I would normally call gray. But not dark. I'll start the whole patio soon, but after testing, I feel confident that this is good paint and will allow for all kinds of creativity with two colors. I'm very happy with this.

This review is on the Behr Premium 1 Gallon # PFC - 68 Silver Gray Textured Low-Lustered Enamel Interior/Exterior Porch and Patio Anti-Slip Floor Paint. Hey this stuff is great! I needed some paint for my basement floor that was already painted before but had a lot of peeling and a bunch of slippery spots. As soon as I took off the lid and began to stir i was shocked by how thick it was. It was like someone took a bag of sand and dumped it in the can, It kind of scared me because I wasn't sure how difficult it was going to be to apply. But it went on smoothly with a roller and dried really quick, although they recommend 2 to 4 hours in between coats and 72 hours recommended before foot traffic. I would highly recommend. Easy soap and water cleanup and reasonably priced.

I used this Behr paint on an outdoor seating area so far but will do the whole carport as well because it looks great. It is extremely easy to apply, just a roller for fastest results. The color I used is silver grey and it is just perfect. It looks the way I imagined my exposed cement would look but didn't. Now it does. The area I painted was just fine during a near miss hurricane. Application does take some planning for rain issues here in Florida. Plan for a Behr bonding primer and then two coats of this Behr floor paint to be applied and dried.
