Q:How long should I wait to cure before applying polyurethane top coat

Answer This Question

A:  Depends if you're using a light/white or a dark color. Poly is not recommended for light colors due to yellowing. Poly on dark colors are safe. As for the time, I'm uncertain .

A:  Hi Painter, thank you for your question. If directions for the polyurethane recommend that the paint has cured, then you'll want to allow 7 days or more before using. Have a great day! -Giovanna

          Beautiful results
I bought a townhouse with very low quality cabinetry. Didn’t really have the budget to replace everything but I wanted to paint it at least. I’m not much of a DIY-er, so I scrub the cabinets with a liquid D gloss her and went to work with this paint. The results were way better than I could have imagined. I used a brush on some spots and a roller on other spots and it actually came out even and you couldn’t tell which surface used. Why! It dried so evenly!

            The Best Cabinet Paint Ever!!!!
I actually thought, ok it's Cabinet paint. Dries in 2 hours and you can shut the cabinet doors. Sounded to good to be true. What if I tell you I backed up accidentally stepped on the door (with shoes on) that was on wood blocks on the floor 2 hours after painting and nothing happened to it. I couldn't even believe it. This paint did for me what it said it would do. I love this paint.

              Really disappointed
Used this to paint my cabinets. After cleaning, sanding, and priming, I used a high density foam roller and it came out looking like orange peel as soon as I applied it. It leveled out a little bit but not to a smooth texture. It also had lots of little bubbles even though I didn’t thin it out like the instructions say. This project was supposed to be finished last night, now I might be looking at started over at the sanding process. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Hi Annoyed, thanks for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the bubbles and texture on your cabinets. To fix this, I recommend sanding smooth the bubbles/texture and cleaning the surface with a damp rag. Then you can apply another coat with a nylon/polyester brush or 1/4in nap roller if needed. Not as pictured
This really a BITTER sage - It's way lighter. So I took my own picture so you won't get surprised when you open it. The countertop is the color I was looking for.

Really disappointed, cracks over latex caulk
I built a bench in my mudroom. I primed all of the boards before assembly and then caulked the small gaps with Alex Plus caulk. I have used this process countless times before. The paint cracked over every caulk joint. The manufacturer really needs to be a lot clearer on the label when it comes to paint prep with latex caulk. Really disappointed.

Hi Bhart, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about your paint cracking. That is not typical, and I can understand your disappointment. Our Cabinet, Door & Trim Enamel should adhere to paintable caulk, given that it has been prepared beforehand. To fix the cracking, I recommend letting the paint dry for 24 hours before gently sanding the surface with 180-240 grit sandpaper to remove the loose coating. Make sure the area is clean and dry before priming the bare spots with our Kitchen, Bath, & Trim Primer (No. 75) and touching up the boards. Recoat the surface if needed for uniformity. Cracks over Dap Alex Plus caulk
This product has cracks over all caulking that I applied after properly cleaning and priming woodwork. I applied this with a quality Wooster brush as I have with other paints many many times before. There are cracks over everywhere that I applied Dap Alex Plus caulk. I allowed the caulk to dry 5 days before applying the first coat. On flat surfaces it is fine, but it cracked over all places that were caulked. I don’t know what I I am going to do now. I have wasted time and money!!!

Hi Rodd, thank you for your review. Sorry to hear that the Cabinet& Trim Paint cracked over the caulking. I wanted to point out that it is recommended to apply the paint over a primed surface. This may be why the paint cracked. I'd recommend sanding the cracks smooth and priming the surface with our Kitchen, Bath & Trim Primer before touching up with paint. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our customer care team is happy to help you! -Ronald Behr
