Coats

How many coats do I need to do? I’m going a darker grey over a purple/pink. Can I get away with one?
Asked by: Painting
Buy a better grade of paint and one coat is plenty.

I need to paint a wall white that's already been pre painted dark brown do i need a first coat of primer?

The wall has designs colored in dark brown. I know this product has primer in in but i need to know if it's recommended to use a bucket of primer by it self first or can i achieve same result by using this product by it self?
Asked by: Elgin
Yes, of course. Even though the good quality Behr paints are "self-priming", (the Premium, the Ultra, and the Marquee), you should use a primer first because plain white has very little hiding ability. (I am a Painting Contractor). If your color of choice was like 'antique white' or beige, then it probably would cover with no primer, but you should do a test first in a little 1-foot wide spot. Primer is cheaper than the paint, and dries quicker, and it evens out the uneven surfaces like the artwork you described. That's why you use primer separate from topcoat paint, even though the paint is called "self-priming". That just means it sticks easily.
