Great coverage but the color looked very different than the brochure. Very thick. We painted our deck with a spray machine and it took up so much paint. Had to be a big gas machine because the smaller electric ones didn’t work with how thick the paint was.

DO NOT BUY THIS
I used Deckover a decade ago and it was great! A single coat of grey was nearly enough to cover dark green. I bought the same color to use at a different house and two coats won’t even cover beige. I did some research and Behr is being sued by customers who use this product. Shame on Home Depot for continuing to sell such crap, especially as I’m sure they are aware of the law suit. Check out the pic, I followed the directions on the can to the letter.

Saved 21 Yr Old Dock. No Peeling 2 Yrs Later
Saved 21 yr old dock. I was VERY skeptical of Behr Deckover after reading the nightmarish reviews, but I'm glad I didn't listen. I applied the Deckover in 06/2020, and it's still going strong. No peeling whatsoever. I used the Behr prep product & lightly pressure washed / brushed the surface. Waited days til the dock was BONE DRY, and applied the Deckover with a brush to get into all the cracks and then used a roller for broad application then repeated. Buy more product than the calculator says!

        Much Better Than Expected
June 2017, first photo. My pressure treated wood pool deck was 15 years old. Power washed all surfaces and lightly sanded any rough, splintered, or fuzzy surfaces. Painted (brush) all railing surfaces (vertical & some horizontal) with a single coat. Top rails and step rails two coats. But NOT the floor and stairs. Got lazy after brushing on the first coat and should have rolled out the second but alas, I didn't. Floor and steps lasted about two seasons and then started to peel. So, this year instead of repainting floor (and rails) I replaced them with composite decking material. (Remember this is a pool deck) Second photo (July 2021) shows the new composite floor and rail BUT I want you to focus on the existing vertical deck surfaces which were painted four years ago. They look like they were painted yesterday. People ask if I recently repainted the deck. Deck Over has held up incredibly well on those surfaces, and I can only wonder if I had rolled on that second coat to the floor and steps if they, in fact, may have lasted longer before peeling. I'm currently using Deck Over again to repeat the process on my homes side deck.

          No happy
Faded after one year. Make SURE you only buy what you need. Even unopened cans kept in the house will not be any good the following year.

Crunchy peanutbutter would have been better choice
Don't be me. Don't read all the bad reviews and think you can make it work. This is seriously the worst product I have ever had the misfortune to use. It isn't oatmeal. It's thick, crunchy peanutbutter that goes on just the same. I have a very large deck and I bought all the recommended rollers and did everything according to directions. I started on the rails and knew I was in trouble, but I didn't stop. I was certain I could make it work. It looks like crap. I used every painting tool on the market to try and make this a smooth finish like it states it is. I did have some luck using a little edging tool and painstakingly smoothing a very thin layer over the wood. But I had to get a new pad every fifteen minutes or so because this garbage paint gets hard, thick and chunky within minutes of it being exposed to the air. Then you get those awesome super chunks that do not smooth out. You can't sand them away. You can't peel them away without tearing up the wood. I hate this stuff. I've finally called mercy. The front portion of my deck is trashed with this paint. I'm going to do something I hate and buy another paint to finish the other two sides, because this is just a horrible disaster. And just for those who actually want a gray shade, this isn't it. It's white. I'm not a novice painter. I know what I'm doing. This is truly just a horrible product. Family happened to come over and noticed the small section I started and laughed. They just replaced their deck this year because the person that owned the house before them put this on their deck. It is THAT bad. Once it's on, it's forever. I used a nonshedding, 3/8 nap roller to try and get a smooth finish. It didn't work. It's just so bad. Heed the warnings and find something else.

            Response from BehrJun 17, 2021
Hello JCAJ, thank you for your review. I’m so sorry the paint was so thick and wouldn't go on smooth and that the color wasn't right. Our Smooth DeckOver will be thicker than a typical paint consistency, but shouldn't be so thick and chunky that it can't be applied with the recommended application tools like a roller. I recommend sanding smooth any chunks left on the surface with 180-240 grit sandpaper, cleaning the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner, letting the surface dry, then touching up and recoating with a new container of DeckOver. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team directly for further assistance with this. Our team is happy to help you! -Joni Behr

The only product I will ever use on my deck
My deck is 21 years old, in 2016 I painted it with Behr deckover in a cedar color and was very impressed. This spring is the first time I have had to repaint the deck since 2016. This time we went with the stonehedge color. I believe the paint lasted so long in good shape was due to my prep work. I power wash the deck, then sand using a belt sander with 36 grit sanding belts, power wash a second time and apply the paint when the temperature is below 85 degrees and never in direct sunlight. The first coat I apply with a 3inch brush and the second coat with a roller. I am very impressed with this product and will never use anything else!

Over $300 spent and so many hours on our deck. We did everything to prep even and it didn’t even last one year. This product just peeled up in chunks off of the deck. I am so disappointed and discouraged.

Hi Discouragedhomeowner, thank you for your review, and we're sorry to hear you're having a peeling issue in such a short amount of time. To fix it, we recommend removing any of the loose coating by sanding it off or using a pressure washer at a low setting. After the areas have been smoothed out, clean them using our cleaner. When dry, reapply the product. To help with this, please reach out to us directly; we'd love to help in any way we can. -Edith Behr
