Questions & Answers

Is there a homeowner type paint sprayer that will spray this product without thinning it?

Asked by: Kenneth
I bought a Graco True Coat 360 airless sprayer, it handled my house with ease 1 quart at a time without thinning at all, the spray gun is about $160.00, well worth the money , beats my old Wagner power painter hands down, and it easier to clean afterward

Can I use this as a one coat application over raw surfaces?

Paint is peeling off. Intermixed with areas that are in still in tact. I know typically you would spot prime raw areas and then do a full top coat over everything. So basically the question is, can I get way with one coat without having to apply a second top coat with this product, primer- paint in one? What is the recommendation?
Asked by: Matt
If your finish is smooth, remove all the loose paint and fill or sand the rest smooth before applying primer coat. If you have a rough surface, remove all the old paint down to a nice finished rough surface before applying primer coat, as good as the pre-paint surface looks is as good as the finish surface will look, the paint coats, it doesn't fill surface texture... This product works as a "Stain-Blocker" and also a "Primer", and also a "Paint", but they ARE 3 separate applications... Today, more than ever before due to the youth of our lumber, EVERYTHING has to be "Protected", This product is an excellent "Protector" of your wood... Looks are important but protection is what KEEPS it looking good, so don't stop with good looks, apply 2 to 3 coats NOW, and another coat later, after your bad weather season is over every year, to replace what your bad weather did to the thickness of your original coats... The first coat is to prime... The second coat is either block wood bleed or paint... and the third is paint... If you have wood that bleeds through paint, then you need 3 coats, if not 2 will do, but understand, the first coat will soak in and create a bonding surface for the next coat, which becomes a bonding surface for the third... You will ALWAYS use more paint on the first coat than the following... If you use a 6" wienie roller, you can store the roller (not the roller frame) and brush in the paint can with the left over paint until next year, so touch ups don't require buying new brushes and rollers, make sure the roller and bristles are completely covered with paint so you don't get dry spots... After your bad weather season, wash off your painted surface with TSP in water, let dry and add another coat, if you have a smooth surface you can use a rag to wash it, if not a brush, be liberal with the TSP, it will clean and degrease the surface, to create a bondable surface for the new coat... If you maintain the paint protector, you will never have to scrape off peeling paint again... The Golden Gate Bridge, is never-not being painted... i.e. "protected"

can this paint be used on pressure treated porch post

can this paint be used on pressure treated porch post
Asked by: skinner
Yes, this IS the paint for that... 1 coat to prime, 2nd coat to block bleeding of the treatment and 3rd to make pretty... An annual TSP wash and thin fresh coat will mean always having a good looking porch post... Tip: Use a 6 inch wienie roller and store it in the paint in the can, so after your bad weather season you can quickly add another fresh coat...
