Questions & Answers

Q:Will this paint adhere to fiberglass, as in a motorhome?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi MsLA, thank you for your question. The Ultra Exterior Satin Paint can be applied to fiberglass once the surface has been primed using a product such as our Bonding Primer No. 432. At this time, we don't recommend our products be applied to vehicles driven on the road. Have a great day! - Randy

Q:Painting over a previously stained front door, have lightly sanded it. Do I need to use something like kilz on it first?

A:  Hi Jules, Thank you for your question. Since our Premium Plus Ultra Paint is a paint and primer in one, you don't need to prime. Your first coat would serve as your primer and the following coats as your paint. I hope this was helpful. -Edith

A:  Has a primer in the product. Make sure you have all of the sanding dust removed before painting. Good luck.

A:  Probably not absolutely necessary, but the paint job will last much longer if you seal the door first. Even with the new paints with primer in them, I've always had better results sealing the project first.

A:  They should have a white already mixed, but check with H D first.

A:  Hi mike, Thanks for writing in with your question. The deep base, No. 9853 cannot be tinted to white. This base is for dark colors, as it allows more colorants to be added. For a white color, you can use the ultra pure white base, No. 9850. No tints are required, and it can be used white out of the can. Good luck with your project! Regards, Giovanna

Q:How many gallons of Behr Exterior Ulta Plus do I need for the outside of a manufactured home, measuring 16" X 76"?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Magnolia, Additional information is needed in order to calculate how much paint is needed to paint your home. First, measure the perimeter of your home. In your case, your perimeter would be 16 +76 + 16 + 76 = 184 feet. Next, you need to measure the height of the house starting from the foundation to the roof line (excluding gables.) I am going to pretend that you have a one story house that is 9 ft high to the roof line. Now multiply the perimeter of the home by the height. (184 x 9 = 1,656). An average window is 15 square feet and an average door is 20 square feet. You can subtract doors and windows from your calculation if you would like a more accurate estimate. If you have gables, multiply the width of the gable by its height and divide by two for each gable. For example, I may have two gables that are 5ft. high and 16 feet long so my calculation would be 5 x 16 = 80 / 2 is 40 sq feet per gable. I would add 80 to the house body measurement of 1,656 for a total of 1,736. A gallon of Behr Premium Plus Ultra Exterior Paint covers 250-400 square feet, depending upon your surface. If you have a smooth, sealed surface you will use less paint and if you have a rough, porous surface, you will require more paint. In my example I would need between five and seven gallons of paint (depending upon the surface) to apply one coat of paint to the home. Seasoned Acorn ECC-40-3 is a deep base color so you will likely need multiple coats for a uniform finish, depending upon your project conditions. Thanks for your inquiry!

A:  Depending upon the surface you are coating, i.e., metal or vinyl siding, your spread rate will vary. Figure the square footage by height in feet multiplied by the length in feet of each wall. Usually 350 to 400 sq. ft per gallon is the normal spread rate on smooth surfaces. Always get a bit more than needed in case of problems down the road. Good luck.

            One coat over old siding
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our wood siding had not been painted for 20+ years. After dry wire brushing, we painted. One coat in the shaded areas and 2 in the sun bleached areas. Looks amazing!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the best affordable exterior paint being offered by any company. It goes on smoothly and stands up to the elements. Where I live the summers tend to get over 110* followed by days of drenching rain and cold winters. It is the best one out there for people on a budget.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I could not be happier with Behr paint! The paint covers in one coat and stands the test of time. Finger prints, pet grime, etc. wash off easily without removing the paint. Behr paint is the highest quality paint I have ever used!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just painted one side of my house as I only paint one a year. Last one for another 5 years rotation. This paint is amazing and works so well over a 20 year span of owning my home. I am 78 and it works well for me(color is never hard to match either. Love it
