Asked by: tom
Yes; the mounting plate may have to be swapped out with the one supplied but just two screws hold it to your electrical box. Unplug & plug your new connector supplied ( if needed ) & your ready to install a new battery & install the smoke detector. I replaced 8 in under an hour. It's that easy!

120-Volt Hardwire Ionization Sensor Smoke Alarm with Battery Backup (6-Pack) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 83.

They were very easy to install given the wiring harness fit right into the 10 year old First Alert harnesses from the ceiling and the cover plates also fit perfectly to replace the old ones with paint on them. A fresh new look in addition to the safety.

I had changed the batteries on my old interconnected BRK Alarms when they would chirp in the middle of the night but when they started going off for no reason ...again in the middle of the night, I found out that they all needed to be replaced. I ordered 8 online and replacing them was a breeze.

My only reservation is that the green LED that indicates it is on is quite bright at night. That can be helpful as a nightlight, but if it is directly above your bed it is a bit bright. I put a small piece of tape over the LED and that was much better.

Needed to replace old smoke detectors in our house -- it is worth it to match the model exactly to what you have, or make sure the mounting bracket is the same, so you don't have to re-install that part. Just the right amount of units for our 3BR house. The batteries don't just come with, they come pre-loaded -- just pull out the plastic tab. That saves a lot of time, since getting the batteries in and out is a bit klunky on these units. Since I bought the same model that originally came with the house, I was able to keep the original bases in place, just pull the plastic battery tab, plug in the electrical connection, and screw the unit in place. I also appreciated getting plastic covers for the detectors, for use in case we want to paint our rooms. I also appreciated getting 6 paper copies of the instructions -- I put one on each floor of the house, with a few to spare. Now I can quickly look up what those darn chirps and flashes mean, when they come on in the middle of the night! The contractor's 6-pack is a big time-saver!

The electrical connector was the same as one the smoke alarm I was replacing and replacing the part that attached to the ceiling was a breeze. So far I have had no more false smoke alarms like I was getting in the early morning hours from the 14 year old smoke alarms I replaced. My only complaint is that I needed 9 new alarms and these were only available in 6 packs. So I have 3 left over incase one of them goes bad or I can sell them to a neighbor. The price was great.

BRK 120-Volt Hardwire Ionization Sensor Smoke Alarms installed about 2 months ago to replace 10 yr old units giving false alarms. New units appear to work well. Had to replace mounting brackets to install new units, so not a true like-kind replacement.
