mint? Spearmint or peppermint, which is better for making Mojitos
    ByJul 28, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Hi Kerri! Spearmint is much better for making a classic Mojito. It has a light, sweet, and mild flavor that blends smoothly with lime and rum. Peppermint has a high amount of menthol. This makes peppermint taste sharp, spicy, and like candy or toothpaste, which can easily overpower the drink.

      Does mint need full sun?
      ByMay 27, 2026
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Hi MimaC! That's a great question. Mint needs light to germinate, so it does well with surface sowing. Mint absolutely thrives in full sun (aim for 4-6 hours daily for optimal growth and a stronger, more fragrant flavor), but it is highly adaptable and also grows well in partial shade. In fact, if you live in a hot region, mint will greatly benefit from some afternoon shade to prevent the leaves from scorching and to keep the soil moist. Feel to reach out to contact@backtotheroots.com with any questions or if you have any trouble germinating your seeds; we're always here to help.

Hi Terri — great question! 🌱 Lavender can be a little tricky, but with the right start, it grows beautifully. We recommend beginning seeds indoors. For best results: Timing: Check our Grow Calendar, https://backtotheroots.com/pages/grow-calendar, to find the ideal planting window for your area. Seed Tips: Lavender needs light to germinate, so press seeds gently onto the soil surface (don’t cover them). Keep the soil warm and evenly moist, but not soggy. Extra Boost: Cold stratifying the seeds (chilling them before planting) can help mimic winter dormancy and improve germination. If you’d like more guidance, feel free to reach out to us at contact@backtotheroots.com — our team is always happy to help!

I bought and planted the seeds on July 3, 2026. They are sprouting in 2 different pots. My original Cilantro seeds are bolting. These seem to be slower growing and hopefully won't bolt in our hot westher.

Hi there! We're so sorry to hear your cilantro is bolting — if you have any questions about our seeds or run into trouble, please reach out to us at contact@backtotheroots.com. We're here to help! In our experience, the best way to keep cilantro from bolting, plant it during cool weather, provide afternoon shade, and harvest frequently by cutting whole stems. Happy growing! Hi Han! We're sorry to hear your Rosemary is not growing. Rosemary requires light for germination and can benefit from cold stratification. We would love to help you troubleshoot and grow. Could you please send us an email at contact@backtotheroots.com with details about how you're growing (light, moisture, planting depth, etc.) so we can get a better idea of how you're growing? Gardening with good product!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love our garden! These are growing! Quality seems good, won’t really know end results until later but I’d definitely buy these again. Easy to just put the rest unused in a baggy and label it for next time! Pest will be pest but I don’t see as many with these so far.

Parsley will grow and should be nice bunches
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It started sprouting but I think I need a little longer to plant more and feed them food. I think it will grow in most soils and harvest a nice bunch. I water every few days but will need to water more and keep trying.

                                Easy to grow 🌿
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I grew these indoors in Texas and they were super easy 🌿. I soaked the seeds in water first, which really helped speed up germination they sprouted in about 2–3 weeks. I had usable parsley in roughly 6–7 weeks. Perfect for a sunny window, very low effort, and the flavor and aroma is so much better than store-bought.
