Q:What mph winds will the aluminum inserts withstand? Will Florida hurricanes be an issue and, if so, is it acceptable to concrete the vinyl fence?

        Answer This Question

A:  Look on manufacturer website they did have information about wind rating with this. I used these and cemented it with the vinyl post. Really strong. My concern was snow loads on the side if the hill.

The main problem with the Barrette Outdoor living vinyl fence products is that until you open the boxes you don't know what other pieces you need!!!! That makes it VERY difficult for someone new to the product to know what to all order.

The specifications for this add-on purchase requirement appeared suddenly and necessarily in the materials that accompanied the gate assembly. It would have been more efficient to learn of this required stiffening before I bought the gate. It would have been courteous to include a required component such as this with the gate for which it is required. It feels like the added expense of the stiffener would have beefed up the cost of the gate system so it was a required additional purchase. Such after-the-fact marketing leaves a bad taste in the mouth. This practice makes one feel stiffed not stiffened. Home Depot does not need to do this type of bait-and-wait. If the stiffener is necessary it should be shipped with the gate; not hidden in the installation instructions. Funny thing about the whole thing is that the stiffeners work well and are part of doing it right. Why disguise the afterthought engineering.

          Corrected the problem
The 5" vinyl posts have a tenancy to sway pretty good in the wind, thereby allowing the upper rail to pop out and bring down the entire fence panel(s). This will stiffen the post and even fix a broken one.

finally installed yesterday, worked extremely well. installed a vinyl fence keeping top rail level instead of following ground line. doing the install that I did 9' post wasn't in the ground far enough to give proper support. Tec screwed insert to end post and cemented it, very strong and stable now.
