Q:What should I pay to have the shed built?
by|Apr 19, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Timothy, How much to expect to pay for someone to build for you is highly dependent on where you live. You'll need to get quotes from contractors local to you. Richard Best Barns

Q:Can we pay for this to be assembled

    Answer This Question

A:  Assembly is not available for Best Barns DIY shed kits. Some customers hire a contractor separately to build for them. Check your local listings. Richard Best Barns

Q:Can you opt not to install the storage loft or is that required? I am looking for 14ft ceilings.

        Answer This Question

A:  Carolyn, Please consider the Denver 12ft. x 16ft. model. This does not have a loft. However neither model is 14ft. high. Interior height to bottom of truss gussets is approximately 11ft. Richard Best Barns

Highly Recommend - Great value and quality
Purchased this shed in order to save a couple thousand $ over what a local company wanted to charge for a comparable product. I was not disappointed! Delivered earlier than the estimated date. Top quality materials. Easy to follow directions. Did have a question about one step and called customer support. They were fantastic... Answered my questions immediately and in a way that made sense. Some information that is available but I'll make it clear here... The window kit is optional. It dose not come with the base package. The roofing material is your responsibility and does not come with the kit. This is probably because different areas have different codes and requirements. I have seen people complain about these points but it it stated if you do your research. I saw it listed that you would need 11 packages of shingles. It only took me 9. Not sure if I just wasted less or what the difference was, but I have 2 to return. Read / follow the directions and don't assume you know a better way to build it. The directions are just about perfect. Some tips I would give: • Double check the lap side of the siding before cutting the loft doors out. For whatever reason my siding was reversed. Not a big deal but I had to swap the cut pieces on the doors. • When installing the roof use a piece of scrap wood as a spacer in the trusses to make sure they don't shift at all. If they do shift the OSB panels will not fit right for nailing. • Install the front gable trim before you do the shingles. Directions show it after but it would have been much easier without the roofing nails already through. • If you have to install it on footers and elevated on any side (my ground was extremely uneven) I would suggest using 1 16 ft 4x4 runner for the floor instead of the 2 8ft ones provided. Still will require support in the middle but gives you a little more flexibility instead of having to position that support right on the joint between the 2 4x4's. • All the nails/screws are probably there, just not in the same bag. Make sure to pull all the hardware out and sort it before you assume a certain size screw is missing and you run out to buy a box only to find them later. • Add extra support for the loft where the OSB seams are. The extra 2x4s from the pallets are perfect for that is it greatly increases the stability of the loft floor when you are walking around and putting the roof together. The only bad thing about the instructions was that (to us) they seemed to get less clear toward the end. They were still correct but just needed to read them several times to understand what I was supposed to do. But that's where the support number comes in. Took me (working mostly on my own with using the kids as gophers) 2 months to get it finished but that was also only working weekends when the kids activities allowed and having reduced daylight for the fall/winter. I work slow. I could see where 2 people that know what they are doing and working at a good pace could have this up in a couple weekends max. Just the use of a nail gun as opposed to hammering by hand would have cut my time 50% at least. Overall a great product and have already recommended it to several people, including one guy who happened to see me building it and just stopped by because he is looking to put something up.

              Love this shed
We bought this shed to put in our back yard. We got the one without a floor as we had a slab of concrete poured. We ended up buying the wood and building a floor (instructions were included) because there was no way to properly assemble this. This was an additional cost of $350.00 We hired a crew of two men (which was an additional cost of over $1200.00) plus he cost of the roofing materials and paint) It's been a week today that we started the build and we're still not done (still need to put up roof, add the window, put the doors on and paint) Over all quality is good, we used screws instead of the provided nails, but took longer than expected and cost more money than expected to complete. Would I do this again? No but at least I know it will last a long time

Overall good. The siding is not red as shown but tan. The window is not part of the kit but an extra that is cheap with plastic shutters that are very flimsy. The instructions are a bit skimpy and some of the 2x4 pieces are part of the delivery pallets. It is large as I had hoped and the loft above works very well. With just a little bit of upgrade in a few areas I would give it a 5 star. I would really like the people who write the instructions for once give them to someone who is not familiar with the set up and see where they have questions or don't think things are clear and rewrite them.

                pretty good
the kit with all parts arrived on time. but the upper storage floor and roofing were flimsy at best, and the design of the crossbeams was not great, and the wood was definitely rough cut. We replaced the upper flooring with plywood, and expect that will work ok. directions were clear-- having several people for raising the walls was essential.

This is the best barn shed
My wife and I purchased this shed in May. It took me and a couple friends to put it together. Other than the shingles it took us 3 days. The instruction were just a little confusing, only because they jump around a little. Having a little building experience helped het it together with no problems. We bought the 12x20 because of the lofts. They really help keep the floor clean and give me more room for my lawn tractor , snow blower, and roto tiller. I put the door to one side so I could build a work bench on the other side and have room to build other stuff. We built our own platform for a floor because I wanted to add a deck on the out side of it. We added a 8x24 foot deck on the side with a 4x20 deck off the front with a 8x8 ramp going up to it. We love the whole thing. We ordered ours from Home Depot and it was delivered in three weeks and it was unloaded right in front of our garage. All the pieces were there and unbroken. Thanks Home Depot and Best Barns. We have the nicest shed in the neighbor hood.
