Two months and $800 wasted
Here is a summary of my two months with this cooler. The first day it was great and slowly it started declining. Two months in and the water pump has already given out (even with an inline water filter from the very beginning). I’ve tried calling customer service and get a dead line every time.
I would not recommend this at all. Over $800 wasted.

Design dissappointments and less cooling efficency
You can't seal this unit. The removable back fits right against the frame that sits flush on the house. No matter how tight the back fits against the house, it's still not sealed against rain. No way to adjust the overflow assembly as mine kept overflowing all the time. The float wouldn't shut off the water. Replaced it and overflow tube with one for a regular cooler. Doesn't cool as much. There isn't as much pad surface area as the old cooler. Moves air, yes. Needs protection from weather.

Great for cooling! Even cools my upstairs when I close all the doors on main floor where it’s located and open upstairs windows. Not happy on the design of external grill pattern. It’s designed to catch debris, dust, cotton etc because grill pattern slopes up creating a catch basin that clogs the cooling vats. That’s poor engineering. Should be opposite of that to shed all of those things.

Surprisingly Good!
I live in SLC and the main level on my house is 1900-sq ft. Since i’ve got radiant heat and a boiler, theres no duct work and no furnace, so no a/c. We’ve lived with an evaporative cooler for the last 10-yrs and the unit that was here when we moved in, is old, run down and sad. My wife and I sww this at Home Depot a s decided to give it a try. My install is slightly different than the manual shows, but i take mine out of the window in late fall. It started cooling almost immediately after installation. It’s surprisingly good!

Swamp cooler 2.0
In 32 years in our home we have worn out or rotted out 4 traditional squirrel cage metal swamp coolers. Went last month to buy number 5. As I was looking and asking about the Bonaire 5900 another customer stopped and gushed all over about how he loved the one he bought last year. His heart felt testimony sold me. It's July 2nd, the temp outside is 95. I turned the unit on low cool when it reached 70 degrees inside. It's now 4:30 pm and it's 69 degrees inside still on low cool. No squirrel cage cooler has ever actually lowered temperature over a hot day even on high. It's plastic, it won't rot out! It doesn't have a belt to tighten or squirrel cage bushings to go bad. It's way smaller, lighter and way better looking. I never write reviews but couldn't help myself.

Only thing I wish it had like my older unit, is the pump only mode on the local switch, it can be ran via the remote. I find the blue LED for the remote to be very bright at night. Installation was done by myself, and once I was familiar with the internals of the unit I like it very much - friends have mentioned that it is quieter than the previous "old style" swamper. I would also recommend getting assistance in placing it - it can be done by a non-burly guy like myself, but its is not easy. My home is 1400sqft and this does very well.

The Bonaire evaporative cooler works far better than our old squirrel cage cooler. It cools our 1440 sq ft place with ease so far. The high temperature to this point has been 94 but I feel there will be no problem as the the summer temperature reaches it maximum. Additionally it appears the energy use will be lower than with the old cooler by a fair amount. Without hesitation I give this unit 5 ice cubes!!!

Great purchase
I'm in a mobile home about 1056 sq. ft. In the Southern Mojave Desert. This replaced 2 large down draft swamp cooler a that were on the roof (worst place you can put a swamp cooler, by the way). It gets really hot here and in the afternoon my house turns into an oven.
I just finished installing the Durango cooler and can already tell it is going to cool my house much better than those 2 large down draft coolers did.
This is a great cooler and the installation was fairly easy.
If you want your house cool this is the one to buy.

This is the second one I have owned. They work well and reliable. On this install I actually made its own opening. I can control flow either to my house or garage. They are a little pricy but don’t rust out like some other stuff. Keeps my home cool even in 100+F ambient. Consistently about 20-25F under. Very comfortable and quiet in house. I recommend.
