About This Product

Colocasia Gigantea Thailand Giant is the largest elephant ear on the market today. Its massive leaves face upward for a dramatically bold, tropical look in the summer garden. It makes an excellent tall screen or corner planting, but it can also be used as a showy tub plant. Colocasia provides rich color all summer long in shady gardens or in patio containers. If not in zones 9 to 10, dig and store in a cool, dry, frost-free location.

  • Space plants approximately 5 ft. apart for best results
  • Best results, grow in deep, moisture-retentive soil because alocasia are heavy feeders
  • Great for borders, container gardening, water gardens and shade gardens
  • Reaches standard mature height of 9 ft.
  • Includes 3 dormant 7 in. to 9 in. Dia bulbs
  • Botanical name: alocasia Thailand giant
  • Grows and flowers best in full shade, partial shade
  • This is a tender bulb, and should be lifted in zones 7 and below, stored, and then re-planted the following spring after the danger of frost has passed

Questions & Answers

Q:Do you have to dig the bulb up before first frost?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello DKAS. Thank you for shopping the Home Depot. Yes. The planting & care instructions state that you will need to avoid frost. With that information, I would recommend removing the bulbs/root system and placing them in a cool dry area. Be sure to cut the plant back all the way before putting it in storage. My family had to do this for all of our bulb plants in Minnesota in the fall before the first hard freeze. Rick_HD_ OC

Super disappointed
I received these and they are so small dried out. I am returning them. This is not the description whatsoever. I already have one and it’s huge. I just wanted another one, but I definitely didn’t buy it from this place.

The bulbs we received were tiny!!! Maybe 3-4” in length and 1-2” diameter. Overall I was shocked at how small they were. SO far off from the product description…. Disappointed.
