Ideal for larger lawns, Brinly's super wide 48″ Tow-Behind Plug Aerators are the tool you need to keep your lawn lush and beautiful. This heavy-duty aerator features 32 heat-treated steel tines that extract 3″ soil plugs from your lawn, allowing water, seed, and fertilizer to reach the root zone. The plugs contain microorganisms that are beneficial to the soil, so leaving them to break down on the lawn helps replenish vital nutrients. Each plugging spoon can be replaced individually, providing less expensive maintenance versus having to replace the entire spoon shaft. Four separate welded tine sections rotate independently, preventing lawn damage during tractor turns. And for those really compacted areas where maximum penetration is needed, an additional 200 lbs. of weight may be added to the fully enclosed steel tray. Will this work well on compacted clay soil?
Richard, thank you for your question. The answer is not a quick yes, but yes. In compacted soil, timing is everything to get started. It's best to aerate the day after a rain or after a good watering. You don't want the soil to be soggy, but damp enough for the plugs to start penetrating. After you have done this a few times, you will start getting the soil loosened up. I have attached a link to our guide for aerating and spreading for your review. I just recently purchased this, and I bought 5 cement blocks, just like in the video, and they do not fit completely in the tray. one side has to sit up on the side and they bounce when moving. Why do they not fit, it is very frustrating

Could this be hand pulled? I see the weight is only 90lbs. Maybe another 100 with cinder blocks. So 200lbs. Or is it recommended to add more weight?

Not only the weight of the machine and added weight, but you also have the resistance of the aerator as it pulls the plugs from the ground. What is the with of the tongue, I will be adding a 2” coupler so I can pull with lawn tractor.
Hello JDL GAL, and thank you for your question. This machine comes with a clevis for attachment to a standard hitch plate with a hitch pin. Are you referring to a (ball hitch) "2-inch coupler"? The width of the combination of the two towbars is approximately 1/2 inch, and with the clevis attached, it is 1.5 inches and will not work with a "coupler" If you have any questions, please call customer service at 877.728.8224.
Why is the 48" aerator made with 16 gauge steel, but the 40" says it is made with 14 gauge steel. I would think the bigger unit would be made more robust. Thanks
That would be a question for their service line, but they are only opened a limited number of hours so plan your day around their availability.
