Is this product reusable?

This is my first season using mine, but I see no reason why you can't reuse the whole system. You should probably purchase new coconut plugs every new season, but the rest should be easy to dry, and put away until next season.

I don't see why not. The coconut shell shreds are not dirt, and are merely a conduit to hold the water and seeds. It falls right off when you take the seedlings out for planting.

Yes, you can easily reuse it. Just disassemble the kit, dry thoroughly. IMO, you should replace the coconut plugs each season.

My pellets only expanded alittle bit after pouring the warm water. What should I do ?

Asked by keykey April 23, 2017

I had best results with HOT water, not warm. And pellets need to be seated in the unit with the flat side down so they can expand correctly. If the pellets are on their side they do not expand correctly

What are the dimensions of the cells on the XL kit?

Asked by MattBodin June 13, 2015

They are 1.5" x 1.5" x 2". At the bottom they taper down to about 1" x 1". The pellets, when fully expanded, don't fill more than 1/2 of the cell so don't believe the picture on the pasteboard sleeve.

Awesome
1. grow lights help..don’t skimp. 2. soak seeds overnight..another hint. 3. if pellets don’t expand to your liking, add more water :) Learned all this thru trial & error—passing on my wisdom to you. Enjoy!

This has worked really, since this year in my area there seems to be a shortage of plants and decided to grow my own. This system comes with directions very easy to use and the results are really good. My plans are coming along just great they should be ready to replant in a few weeks. Really excited to see them grow.

I purchased this kit to start seedlings for a new hydroponics rig I set up at my home. I was curious about being able to use the coco coir starter blocks in my hydroponics unit once the seeds had sprouted. The Coconut coir works just fine. I was also concerned about the expansion of the starter discs, or plugs, after reading some of the reviews. I had NO problem with the discs that I inserted correctly - the only issue I had was I had a couple inserted on edge, instead of with a flat side down, and they expanded sideways. This was MY fault. As an experiment I started seedlings in about 1/2 of the provided coco coir plugs / discs. The remainder of the cells I filled with Rock Wool plugs in which I had started seedlings about a week before. While the rock wool plugs didn't exactly fit the empty cell dimensions I was able to press them down so that they were watered by the wick system. I then planted seedlings in the coco coir discs. Have to say that my sprout rate on the Burpee discs was MUCH higher than in the rock wool plugs. Overall I am impressed with the performance of this inexpensive kit. I will reuse the kit, including the coco coir discs, for future seedlings for my hydroponic rig.

Great little greenhouse growth accelerator
Oh my goodness, this product worked so very well to incubate my seedlings. Set it up and let it go for it. Zero maintenance except for adding more water into bottom tray.

It works as the instructions say. Easy to use. It sometimes takes a while for all of the pellets to soften and expand. I just added water over them to lessen the time. Plant, cover seeds and place plastic cover on. I kept mine close to a floor vent for extra warmth at night. Good product.

I recommend trying a different brand. Any different brand.
Talk about an exercise in frustration. I followed the directions carefully, including the instruction to warm the water first. Most of the pellets didn't absorb water. The two that absorbed any water at all only filled the cup halfway. How seeds are supposed to germinate from the middle of a narrow black tube is a mystery to me. I tried repeating the steps twice. Nothing. The pellets have been soaking for three days now—they might as well be rocks. I've looked at other reviews of this product and it does apparently work... sometimes. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones. I know I'll never buy a Burpee product again.
