Do I have to take down my whole closetmaid system if I want to make the tracks longer so I can add a shelf to my setup
Asked by Skbest June 26, 2019Closetmaid makes an "Extender" but it is not offered at Home Depot. You can find it on the Closetmaid web-site. It allows you to extend the length of one of the vertical standards that is already screwed into the wall. You do not need to move it at all. You just need access to the last hole pair at the bottom. Then you hang another short standard below. In addition to hanging it from the extender, you need to use at least 2 screws in the lower vertical to ensure that it stays in place. I believe that many of the ClosetMaid kits include extenders because it would be difficult to transport an 80" vertical standard in a typical automobile. It works better to include two shorter vertical standards in the kit along with extenders to hold them together. On the ClosetMaid web-site it is called: STANDARD EXTENDER SKU: 2819000

Asked by KH May 13, 2020I'm not sure what you mean by the top shelftrack piece. It the brackets are secured to the studs, the all y ou should need are the shelf holders.
