Q:Can I cut this with water to reduce the intensity? Staining individual blocks in a stamped concrete and want to vary the color intensity so it does not look all the same.
by|Mar 13, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A:Â You can probably add 10-15% water in an attempt to decrease the intensity of the stain. MOST IMPORTANT is to test a small amount to ensure satisfaction with the results and to write down your formula, so you can duplicate it. Allow the stain to dry fully before evaluating the final appearance.

Q:Is this breathable? I want something that will not trap water vapor.

Answer This Question
A:Â I would not say this is breathable because you would have to put a sealer on for it to last. Â

A:Â Colour Crete is a penetrating stain for porous concrete. Since it is not a solid coating, like paint, it will not trap moisture in the concrete.

Q:Can this be used on saltillo tiles?
by|Aug 19, 2022

Answer This Question
A:Â I can give you a general answer because I have no idea of the composition of Saltillo tiles. Concrete paint works best when the surface is absorbent (like concrete). It is not meant for sealed surfaces such as porcelain tile.
by|Aug 20, 2022
A:Â Only if they are porous and the stain is easily absorbed.

Q:Can this be used with a stencil to create a pattern like brick or stone?

Answer This Question
A:Â Most likely, yes. You should test your method in an inconspicuous area first to confirm that the stain will do what you want.
by|Aug 4, 2022
A:Â Yes but adding a brown makes it more interesting
by|Aug 1, 2022
A: I highly doubt it since it’s a stain. It’s mainly a color restorer.

Restored old stamped concrete driveway
I used this water based concete stain to restore the color and luster to a stamped concrete driveway that had gotten faded and worn. I got a bit over 200 sf of coverage amd used a pump sprayer and then back rolled it. Very happy with the results

An antique look to my concrete backyard.
my backyard ground was painted with a gray color. It was peeling. The concrete was a stamped colored concrete. I scraped the paint leaving some gray to give an old look and applied Color Crete. wonderful result! I will seal it with Quikrete sealer natural look.

Old concrete - be prepared to double your estimate
Product easy to put down with roller. But older porous concrete will suck up the stain the roller overlaps will be very visible. Expect to do at least 2 coats. 10 gallons were needed for a 720 SF patio and we're still not very pleased with the final results.
Very watery product,

Older, more porous concrete will absorb more stain than newer concrete. The range on our can is between 60-200 square feet per gallon, so at 72 square feet per gallon on porous concrete, you are in the ballpark. To minimize roller marks, apply to cool concrete surfaces and back-roll at a 90 degree angle. Colour Crete concrete stain is designed to be very thin, so it can do the best job possible of penetrating your concrete.

Great product! It was very easy to apply and dried very quickly. The second coat made it darker and more uniform. I followed the instructions on the can
and put it on concrete that was poured about 15 years ago that had never been painted or stained and was thoroughly cleaned beforehand. I used terra cotta and am very pleased with it. I highly recommend this product.

Great product....used it to change the color of a detached garage made of sump blocks. For my application I used a 3" brush to apply the stain. Great coverage....I waited 48 hours and applied a second coat to some of the blocks, deepening their color.
Overall this is a great easy to use product that gives you professional results.

Major problems
I used this product on my front sidewalk and 1000 sq ft patio in Arizona. I followed instructions on the can precisely. The product looks great and has not been a problem in most areas, however after application I encountered a situation where the product peeled up when walking on it barefoot with water present (eg near my spa). I worked with manufacture on the phone and they acknowleged only one instance where the product had not adhered. They sent etching material. At that point, I had had to remove the product from the part of the patio where the problem manifested (a massive job) with a pressure washer, etch the concrete and and reapply. Thereafter I have seen the problem reappear during hot afternoons (still when walked on barefoot with water present) although I had to leave the area before I could fully test it. It appears (not conclusively) that the product becomes sticky and peels up at high surface temps when it is wet. Im going to see how the product performs and review it when I am back in Arizona.

Colour Crete is a penetrating stain that is formulated to soak into porous concrete surfaces and cure. Colour Crete is not formulated to be a surface film and will run the risk of peeling if it is over-applied, or not properly bonded to the concrete. Etching the concrete prior to application will ensure that the stain will penetrate and bond properly.

Semi-Transparent Decorative Concrete Stain creates a semi-transparent finish for concrete surfaces. It will transfer ordinary concrete surfaces into a decorative natural stone-like finish. Tintable to a wide variety of colors. Provides consistent color accuracy and easy to use.
Eagle Acid Stains create marbled variations of color on cured concrete by chemical reaction with the minerals in the concrete. Every concrete floor will react with its own unique pattern. Once sealed with clear sealer, your floor will pop with an elegant look. Because acid staining is a tedious process, Eagle concrete dyes should be considered if a simple process is important.
