Answer This Question

A:  The switch to change colors is under the cover, terrible design IMO.

A:  You would change the color temperate by using the CCT slide switch located on the end of the fixture near the end cap. You will need to remove the diffuser to access the switch.

Great for replacing old fluorescent fixture
My old one was hardwired and installed in the ceiling with molly screws. I was not able to put a regular gang box, so I installed a "old work" box and it worked perfect. Since the old work box is rated for only 6 lbs, I removed the plastic anchors that came preinstalled and used a molly type anchor on one end and a wood screw on the other. The fixture itself without the cover and ends weighs 4.5 lbs so I was able to use the chain while wiring. Took me about an hour, but I'm slow!

This is a very bright, energy efficient ceiling light! It's perfect for garages and laundry rooms, just be ready for a major difference if you are replacing old florescent fixtures. This light will be much much brighter! The fixture is lightweight, but unfortunately it requires an electrical box due to the design with integrated LEDs. Pretty much all LED fixtures work this way now, so the major difference is that you can't do the wiring inside the fixture itself like you could with the old florescent fixtures. This fixture doesn't have a 2" knockout to allow the electrical wiring to go inside and that makes sense since the wiring would block some of the LEDs and affect the light that is emitted. Unfortunately, I have existing fixtures that were just mounted through the ceiling with drywall anchors and the electrical wiring was done inside the old fixtures, so there's no electrical box to work with. Even though the weight of this new fixture is comparable to the existing fixtures (no heavy ballast, just a lightweight AC/DC LED driver), I can't take the risk of having the ceiling drywall break apart during installation. The blue old-work fan box cannot hold the entire weight of the fixture during installation, so the two drywall anchors on the side must be used. Better yet, if you can line up two ceiling joists, you can use the two included wood screws and metal washers instead of the drywall anchors. In order to install this new fixture correctly, you really need an electrical box mounted directly to a ceiling joist. This is the best and safest way to install these fixtures. If you already have an electrical box secured to a ceiling joist, this installation will be extremely easy and only one person would be needed. If you don't have an electrical box, and you can't install one yourself, you'll need two people. My existing fixtures happen to be directly above attic space that has plywood blocking access to the ceiling from above, so it's a very challenging installation without an existing electrical box. On the plus side, I really like how easy it is to remove the plastic holders on each side of the new fixture. You can do it all by hand, this is so much better and easier than the fixture it replaced. There are small tabs on the covers so you can insert a small thin screwdriver to pry the cover off, but you don't even need a tool, you can get the side covers off by hand. I have no idea if the LED driver is replaceable long term if the light fails, but it looks like it would be simple enough with some soldering. We all know that LEDs like this are expected to last a very long time. It's also dimmable! So if the light is too bright, say for the laundry room, you can install a dimmer switch and make things work. Really love the exterior switch that allows the color temperature to be changed. This is especially helpful if you forget to set it and then need to change it. Once you set it to your preferences, you shouldn't ever really need to set it or change it again, but it's there and very easy to do from the outside of the fixture, even after installation! Overall, this is an excellent fixture, the base is metal and the covers are all hard plastic, but the plastic side covers have an integrated metal design on them that is glued to the plastic covers. If those metal parts are loose or break off, you can easily re-glue them and you should. I did this myself since mine were loose and I had some silicone glue available. This fixture assembles so easy with the plastic side covers because they can be easily removed and re-installed by hand! No more broken light shields anymore! I also really like not having flickering florescent tubes anymore, it's great!

Nice looking fixture, good output, and handy features. Depending on the application might be worth the price. I’ve been trying out a number of LED fixtures over the last year or so (see video). This surface mounted LED is on the higher end of 4 foot fixtures I’ve tested ($115 at the time of this review). The design of this light is nice looking with a smooth diffuser and decorative end caps. Probably too nice for my garage where I installed it. It is a direct wire fixture and requires a recessed electrical junction box. It also features the ability to change the lighting color (3000, 4000, or 5000K) by sliding a switch on the side. Nice touch! Output of this fixture is pretty good. Much more than the broken 2 bulb fluorescent it replaced (see photo). Still I have a hard time overcoming the premium price. There are several fixtures that HD sells that are more affordable and have better output. Essentially you are paying for the sleek look and design.

This Commercial Electric flush mount LED ceiling light gives you the same amount of light as three 32 watt fluorescent light bulbs according the user manual, but it has less weight in the fixture and more energy savings than an older fluorescent fixture. The light has attractive end panels that are easy to remove for installation on your ceiling. You will have attached the electrical connections first with the supplied hardware (see picture of the hardware package). Then, you pop off the side panels (see picture), and then you undo the nut holding the second part of the end panel on each end (see picture). Lastly, you remove the frosted white cover over the strip of LEDs so you can use the pre-drilled holes to mount the fixture to your ceiling electrical box. It should take no more than 15 minutes to finish the job, and you end up with a nice light that even has an adjustment on the side of the fixture for changing the color of the light (see picture), from soft white all the way up to bright daylight. It is rated at 4,000 lumens so this is a nice, bright light. I highly recommend this light for its ease of installation as well as its nice modern design.

This COMMERCIAL ELECTRIC MESHA 48 IN. X 10 IN. FLUSH MOUNT INTEGRATED LED CEILING LIGHT is a huge improvement over the 2-flourescent tube hanging shop light that I had previously. It is brighter, and offers 3 color settings which can be easily changed (switch is outside the light). It diffuses the light better, and doesn't flicker like the old fluorescent lights. One issue we had with installation is that the only connection provided is in the center, and it must be mounted to a box. Our old florescent had a cord and plugged into a wall socket. In order to avoid extra wiring, we added a pig tail to this one and plugged it in. It is a very lightweight ceiling light, so the center box is probably adequate for holding it up. The LED bulbs are integrated, so when they go, I think the entire unit will need to be replaced. They claim it will last many years.

I wanted to replace the four-foot fluorescent light fixture in my kitchen with this four-foot LED unit. Unfortunately, the wiring for the old unit is not compatible with the flat backside of this LED unit. This unit must be mounted to a standard electrical box where all of the electrical connections need to be made. There is no space inside or above the fixture to make the connections. The electrical box connection point is exactly in the center of the light fixture – which may cause positioning issues. If you all you have is a wire without a box (like me) you will need to install an electrical box or choose a different fixture.

Nice unit. Well thought out. This can easily be installed by one person. It has a neat feature of captured drywall anchors. The LED's are bright and adjustable as in intensity. The adjustment switch is very accessable. The leads from the transformer are long enough to get into the electrical box and insulated with a loom that is long enough to get there through the supplied nipple. I can't see any one being disappointed with this product, it's well thought out and functional.

I gave this product 4 stars, which says it is good, but I want to qualify that rating. The product is very functional as far as providing illumination to a large area. That’s thanks to 4 rows of LEDs in pairs and those pairs spaced less than 2 inches apart. The acrylic cover/diffuser does a good job of diffusing the light as well. Installation is simple and the short length of chain that is provided holds the fixture nicely while you complete the wiring. I put it with my wiring tools for use with other fixtures in the future. There is some effort required to push the last wire nut and wires for the ground into the ceiling electrical box with this process, but it certainly is not major. The driver is located at one end of the fixture and spans its width so it might be robust enough to last as long as the LEDs. Most LED fixture failures are a result of a driver going bad and not the LEDs themselves. The price seems reasonable for lighting components and light that you get. Efficiency of the LEDs is on par with others or above average. One fixture provides plenty of general lighting in one garage bay even with the ceiling being 11-1/2 high. Initial selection of color temperature with the switch at the outer edge of the fixture at one end is simple. The issues I have are as follows. The instructions have a picture of the diffuser that makes it appear that the diffuser is installed OVER rather than inside the sheet metal. If that is correct, you must remove the end cap and diffuser to adjust color temperature. I don’t think that is what the designer had in mind since instructions mention removing part of the switch so it won’t be visible. This means that the diffuser is only supported by the end caps and not along the full length. Not a big deal but could be an issue at some point in the future. The curved end cap design is not that appealing to me but the mesh grill design is better than the fancier option offered by the Victoria model but that is a personal preference. Since these (two) fixtures are in my garage I am not really that concerned with the appearance. The same would be true in an unfinished basement and maybe a laundry room. The drywall anchors at the ends of the fixture work well to hold the fixture in place if you screw them in carefully making sure you don't overtighten them. Using the single attachment point at the electircal box doesn't seem like an acceptable option for any installation. I can’t comment on dimming since there isn’t a dimmer for my garage lights. The reason for changing fixtures was to get as much light as possible when I am working out there. The overall quality deserves a “good” by comparison to other fixtures I have installed but it will take more work on the visual design to earn an excellent

My laundry room had an older style fluorescent light fixture which wasn’t very attractive so I replaced it with the 4 foot Mesha Series, Commercial Electric LED ceiling light. It could be used in many other locations such as kitchens and bathrooms. This fixture has a big advantage over my old one because it has a switch that allows you to choose either a soft, bright or daylight light color. My wife chose the day light setting which makes it easy to spot stains in the clothing in case spot treatment is needed. In addition, it has a very modern and stylish appearance, is very economical to operate and eco-friendly since it only uses 48 watts while producing an impressive 4000 lumens of bright light. The light is dimmable. It was easy to install and comes with built-in anchors for drywall ceilings. The end caps are flimsy and only push into place without snapping in. Just a bump while cleaning would dislodge them. The lens cover is also thin and not very substantial. My other objection to It is that it's little pricey but I think it is still a good buy. The fixture is covered by a 5 year limited warranty and the LEDs are rated for 50,000 hours.

Full disclosure: I have been provided with a free sample for review. I have no affiliation with the manufacturer nor do I know anyone that does. This review is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the free ceiling light. Things that I feel could be improved upon: The only downside that bugged me enough to mention is the mounting screws. Initially I was super excited about the ready to go drywall plastic screw anchors built into the unit and ready to go (see attached photo). In theory you can hold the fixture up with one hand and then use your power driver to set the special easily rectified by drilling a 3/16” pilot hole which allowed the plastic anchor to do its job. Unfortunately when I tried to drive the anchor into the ceiling knock-down drywall the plastic just wore down to a blunt mess. This was likely do to a really hard knock-down plaster ceiling. I think if it was just drywall it would have worked as it was designed. Fortunately my problem was easily fixed rectified by drilling a couple of 3/16” pilot hole and using the provided (now messed up) plastic mounting anchors. A word of caution here is needed: always drive plastic screw in anchors slowly with the drill set to its lowest setting and finish with a hand screwdriver to avoid stripping the drywall hole. There are many things that I really like about this surface mount LED unit: I have installed this unit in the ceiling of my home wood/metal shop, I have chosen the bright white setting which works well for me. The three options are easily selectable with a small three position switch. I tried all three settings and found the 3000K soft white color way to yellow and the highest setting of 5000K to be somewhat blueish. The ability to select one of three colors (see attached photos). Soft white (3000 kelvin, bright white (4000K), and daylight 5000K). I’ve installed this unit in my home seem to have a blueish tint. It is super important to me that the with a bunch asterisks that try to shed light on this 45 year prediction. I don’t know what your experience has been, but I’ve had several LED bulbs predicting 8 to 20 years of life fail with as little as 3 months. A little research revealed to me that the predicted life expectancy of LED lights has to do with time expected for the LED to degrade to 70% of their initial brightness. Also, I found out that early bulb failure is usually caused by a problem with the LED control unit. These CE units have their LED controllers built into the unit and they appear to be substantial (see attached photos).Overall I really like these ceiling light fixtures and recommend them to anyone using them as replacements or for new installations. They provide 4000 lumens of light and cost less than ½ to use them. . I did remove one star from my rating because of the pesky issue with the plastic mounting anchors. As a further testimonial, I plan to purchase two more of these units to replace old multiple tube florescent fixtures in my shop.
