Q:Other buyers have mentioned that the blades on these snips are about 2" long. How thick a branch can I cut with this tool? Is it useful only for cutting flowers and herbs? I need pruners that can cut branches and twigs that are about 1/2" in diameter. Could I use this tool to do that? Thanks in advance for your feedback

Answer This Question

A:  These 1.75 Corona Tempered Steel snips are specifically made for trimming small branches. I would say the maximum diameter would be 1/4". These are NOT hand Bypass Shears! They are precision snips which I use on my Orchids and other small precison jobs.

A:  Yes you can, it can cut up to 1 inch.

A:  Corona makes a sharpening tool I really like. It's basically a piece of carbide on a handle and you drag it across the blade without having to disassemble. Unless your blade is really nicked, this works great for putting a quick edge on your tool. Costs about $11 on homedepot.com

A:  You cant take them apart, but they do open very wide. You can mount them in a vice or hand hold and use a file for the length of the cutting surface. You can use a stone or small diamond sharpening plates.

          by|Mar 22, 2019

A:  I haven't had to sharpen yet, but a file shouuld be able to reach in.

A:  I use Corona's sharpener. Just a few swipes on the blades, then a pass on the flat side to make sure it's perfectly flat, and they're back to super-sharp.

          by|Mar 25, 2019

A:  A great question - Using a sharpener, such as Corona's AC 8300 allows for the sharpening of blades, without taking the tool apart. A sharpening stone is also used in the same manner. To sharpen the blades, hold the tool with the blades away from you. Angle the sharpener at approximately 90 degrees to the blade and swipe the sharpener across the blade four to five times. Do this with each blade. It is quick and easy.

I really like these SNIPS and I Love the fact that these are stainless steel. No rusting....which is AWESOME!! The are perfect for deadheading flowers. They are a little bit smaller than I would like. The curved tips actually comes in handy and makes them a little easier to use in tight fitting spots. They use a black strap to keep them closed when not in use. I am a little concerned that this will not last long and then I will need to figure out another way to keep them closed. All in All, very nice snips....SHARP! (I cut blades of grass with them when they arrived), comfortable grip, and stainless steel!! Almost forgot to mention. Nice strong, sturdy spring. Not sure if it is stainless or not.

Long Curved Stainless Steel Snips These hand pruners are a nice addition to my garden supplies, they are small ( about 7 + inches) but with the thin curved blades it makes them easy to use; especially for trimming some of my small trailing plants. Easy to get up underneath the plants and trim /deadhead as needed. Being stainless steel they are easily rinsed off. The handles are red and there is a small leather strap attached to end of handle to keep them closed when not in use. The feel sturdy when using and the price point it good. I’d highly recommend this product.

Nicely sized for more delicate cutting operations, the curved blade (1 ½ inch from pivot to tip) permits cutting without damaging adjacent stems/branches. A spring is provided to return the snips to the open position when the strap tether is not used to secure the handles in the stored position. The tether is the only possible “weak link” and will probably break long before the well made snips will. The cushioned grips are a good size for small to medium sized hands and allow for good control without slipping. Lacking a ripe crop of fruit to cut, I used these (and the companion straight blade snips) to trim some rose stems, a task which they quickly, easily and cleanly accomplished. The stainless steel blades should resist corrosion and, with proper care, last a long time.

Perfect for Bonsai I have a number trees/plants that I keep well trimmed, some are a few inches tall, and two are woven Hibiscus trees. The smaller bonsai plants require a very sharp trimmer that has a tight set of snippers. Cuts must be very clean, so as not to injure the bark. And the trimming needs to be at the propper joint locations. The Habiscus are more mature (almost 10 yrs old). I have to keep them trimmed to to similar sizes and keep all suckers off them. If I trim properly at joint I'll generally get a split branch or a bud. The snippers are strong enought that I can use them for almost everything, they may be a little small to cut anything over 1/2" or so, for that I'll use bypass clippers. I have several other pruners, one which too pointy, another that is too delicate. This set of snippers is just right. VERY sharp, and the curved snippers let me see what I'm doing. The handles have some texture to them, they won't slip if they get wet (I've tried sugons snippers, but I can't grip them properly (and they don't stay sharp)). The stainless steel of these blades seems excellent. The little loop at bottom is adequate to keep them closed (as they should be stored this way so they don't get damaged). I'm very happy with them and recommend these snips for fine work.

These Corona snips are the best and they arrived at the perfect time!   My lemon tree is overwhelmed with lemons and the branches are burdened with the weight.   These snips are so comfortable to hold and use, they fit in my hand beautifully, easily snip through the lemon stem and make the job of harvesting so fast and simple.  Because they are short and small, I can get right up to the spot I want to snip.  They are incredibly sharp and there is no tearing of the stem when cutting.  The blades are stainless steel, which means they won't rust and are easy to clean.  I really like the leather strap that holds them closed for storage or when not in use as it won't  rust or become impossible to unlock like other snips with push-button or latch releases.   These snips are very well-made with high-quality materials, they cut cleanly and are a great size and shape for perfect control.  This is definitely the nicest pair of garden snips I have ever owned!

These are great straight snips/pruner for light garden work. We used these to trim back out knockout roses. The blades are sharp and easily cut up to 3/8" branches. It could do larger, but required a few cuts to make it. They seem to hold up well during a 30 minute pruning session with no loss in sharpness. I do prefer the straight style blade over the curved blade. The leather 'close' strap is a bit different from locking snips, but it works well.

These Short Curved Stainless Steel Snips are perfect for my bonsai pruning. They are small, delicate, and sharp. The handles are comfortable and fit my hand well. The blades are curved perfectly to make a smooth cut. The steel stays sharp and appears to be a very good quality. I also like the leather latch that holds the handles together. It also makes them easy to hang. All in all, a very nice pair of snipers and I think they should last quite a long time.

These garden snips weigh just 3 ¾ oz. They are easy to use with minimal effort and open and close smoothly. They are on the smaller side so are very comfy to use, especially if you have smaller hands (someone with very large hands might not find them as comfortable to use). The blades are very sharp and slightly curved so if you use them to clip fruit, you can cut the stem closer to the fruit itself. They worked well on a variety of stems: many kinds of fruit, flowers, even lemon grass which is fibrous. There is a band attached to the bottom which holds the snips closed and when closed, measure 6.5"

The snips arrived well packed and undamaged. I was immediatley struck by how solid the product is constructed. The snips are the perfect size to fit in your hand. They cutting edges are very sharp and the metal seems solid. The curved cutting edges come together perfectly for nice neat cuts. There is ZERO wobble even when trying to cut a branch that is a bit larger than recommended. The handles are cushioned and comfortable, but the cushioning is not so soft as the material might tear or rip easily. I think they will hold up. Also the metal is stainless steel, so I believe they will provide years of solid performance. The only detractor is the strap that holds the snips closed. It is either leather or "pleather", but it would be better if this was a metal clip. This strap material will not last as long as the snips will last. This is an awesome little tool. Overall, I am pleased with the product and I recommend this item.
