Q:Doesn't there need to be a gasket between the valve seat and the valve body? Or do you rely on plumbers tape around the threads to seal the seat? Or?

Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in Danco products. On the end of the stem is a washer. That washer is what seals the stem to the seat. No plumbers tape or gasket is needed.

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in Danco products. Danco offers 2 different kits to fit a 3-handle Gerber valve system. The part numbers are 39617 and 39615. As long as the stems match yours this should work for you.

A:  Hello Gerry, Thank you for your inquiry. Form what I've read I do believe that this No. 38 will work to replace 970-200. I was unable to find 949-023 on our website at all. I would reach out to the manufacturer directly for pricing and availability of that part. Thank you for choosing The Home Depot.

Brass is the way to go!
I have Price Pfister shower valves from 1961. I replaced the seats with some nickle plated units and they didn't last. They also have a very small crest face for the washer to seat against. These brass ones are better and I was able to face the seats on a small lathe for more contact area and less deformation of the washers. No more leaks! HINT: If you are using a multiple sized seat wrench, cut off the last segment so the tool will fully engage the inner squared dimension of these seats.

Some difficulty using the multi-size tool as the tool hits the back of the fitting before it engages the thread. Had to use a jury-rigged sleeve to prevent this and fully engage the thread on the seat.
