I bought for my husband but do I need a compressor hose and what size. Please help.

Answer

When I purchased this 15-gal. compressor, I was also a bit confused as to what I would need, for I had never previously used air tools. I just followed the suggested accessories, and all has worked well, especially sanding our large outside cedar decks. Now I'm hooked and suppose even more air tools will be in my future as I begin work on our basement this winter. 1) Dewalt 3/8" x 100' Premium Hybrid Air Hose. The hose comes in shorter lengths if 100' is more than your husband needs. https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-3-8-in-x-100-ft-Premium-Hybrid-Air-Hose-DXCM012-0206/305083334 2) Husky 13-Piece Brass Air-Compressor Accessory Kit for hooking up attachments; https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-13-Piece-Brass-Air-Compressor-Accessory-Kit-HDA51300AV/100392283 3) Husky 4-Piece Quick Connect Kit, also needed for attachments; https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-4-Piece-Quick-Connect-Kit-HDA20100AV/100003130 4) Husky 8 oz Air Tool Oil, needed to lubricate attachments; https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-8-oz-Air-Tool-Oil-HDA10800AV/100047286 5) He'll also need a 12/3 gauge heavy duty extension cord or better that Dewalt says should be no longer than 50'. I purchased Southwire's 12/3 SJTW Heavy-Duty extension cord; https://www.homedepot.com/p/Southwire-50-ft-12-3-SJTW-Hi-Visibility-Outdoor-Heavy-Duty-Extension-Cord-with-Power-Light-Plug-2588SW0002/205544514 I hope this helps.

the air compressor is no oil so how long will it last, can it be lubricated

Asked by Chris August 16, 2020
1
Answer

It can not be lubricated nor does it need to be. It is an electric motor and electric motors have been built with permanent lubrication for many years. These motors last for a very long time, depending on the amount of use. The compressor is the same: it will last for a very long time, depending on how much you use it and how well you take care of it. A bushing will probably be the first thing to wear out and normal compressor use is probably never enough to wear out a bushing.

is this a big enough tank for home project sandblasting?

Asked by nate August 9, 2020

Answer

For light blasting. I still have concerns. It builds good pressure but run time is almost constant . If used in good ventilation it runs ok. I guess I would buy a unit with a larger tank and may be this would help.

Will this compressor run a random orbital sander " DA " sander ?

Yes, I purchased the 8 in. Aircat sander, and it worked great preparing our cedar decks for staining. https://www.homedepot.com/p/AIRCAT-8-in-Composite-Central-Vac-Geared-Sander-3-16-in-Orbit-6700-8GCV/302767015

Yes, it is direct drive and there are no belts involved. I cannot answer where the compressor was made. But you can contact DeWALT directly at 1-800-433-9258 with that and any other questions you may have about the compressor.

Asked by Texwrench December 22, 2019

Answer

I believe the warranty is one year unlimited and three years limited, meaning that not everything is covered for three years. I have used mine sparingly for close to two years without any issues. However, I have noticed that Dewalt has made some changes to the design for what I saw as a couple of issues, so make sure you get the latest design. That would be the one with the extra bar on the top to protect the pressure adjustment knob should the compressor fall over..

GREAT COMPRESSOR but small tank...
I bought one a week ago. I took the motor/pump off of the tank and put it on a 21gal tank I purchased. It too was a complete compressor but removed its motor/pump as well to put the dewalt motor/pump on the tank in its place. I then replaced the 175psi pressure switch (air compressor tanks such as these are rated for well over 300psi. It's the motor/pumps that can't handle the pressure) with a 200psi (on @165psi off @200psi, 20amp) pressure switch. Then, I hooked up the outlet on the manifold to the tank to a massive ¾"-½"-⅜" water removal manifold I built with copper pipe/tubing. A few of the joints are soldered, a few are joined via compression fittings, but mostly I used shark bites. The system holds 200psi easily. ZERO water comes out of my air gun. I use it to HVLP spray my vehicles and other things. Since the entire system holds approximately 24gal @200psi with a 225psi, high volume pump. It keeps up with constant non stop spraying @5cfm @90psi. When I turn the gun down to 40psi (which sprays beautifully at that pressure) the pump kicks in for a minute then turns off for a minute continuously, off and on. it doesn't stay running. Which is very impressive. As far as this compressor goes, buy one. Sell the tank and put the motor/pump on a 20-26 gallon tank put on a 200psi max on/off switch. You'll be very pleased!!

good compressor
This is a good compressor, but my one problem wirh it is the drain valve being right under the wheels. It catches and drags on everything when moving it around. Pretty heavy, and my first one leaked out of the adjustor knob so I did a return. New one is fine.

LOUD and SLOW
Loudest shop compressor ive ever had! It says 78db, ive checked it multiple times, always over 90db! It takes forever to fill the tank. I had a porter cable 20gallon that was half as loud and filled fast. Im very dissapointed, i use all Dewalt tools for my business and this one is my biggest regret.

Regular failure N231859 compressor
Purchased from Home Depot a couple years back and use very seldom for small chores, maybe a couple dozen times since purchase. Went to start it after sitting for 2-3 months and the motor ran for a minute or so and suddenly shot off. Pulled the release valve line and opened drain valve. Pressurized air came out of both and motor started running, but still no air from tank to hose. I know its well out of warranty but definitely fails any reasonable standard for life expectancy. Trying to locate someone who sells a replacement regulator for this model. I have a garage full of DeWalt power tools, some I've had for decades and never once had a failure.

I bought this air compressor because it stated that I could run a sander. It only has enough power to run it for about 3 minutes. With the compressor out of air... I have to wait several minutes to start sanding again.

Bought this unit to power a pneumatic nailer for building a small backyard chicken coup. Worked fine for that first week. Since then, I have used it on several occasions to put air in my tires. Always stored in my garage, has never left my house since bringing it home, but it started to fail to turn on...flip the switch and the motor would not run and occasionally I would hear a dull thwang sound (relay?). I would plug and unplug and it would eventually turn on after a half dozen times. Went to use it today and nothing. Never been dropped, transported, etc...just kind of quit on me. Looks like it is brand new. Very disappointed for getting a half dozen uses out of a rather expensive piece of equipment. Never had a problem with my older DeWalt equipment...

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
Dewalt 15 Gal. Portable Electric Air Compressor. I love all of my Dewalt tools and this 15 Gal. Portable Electric Air Compressor is perfect for my shop. I have owned one of those “pancake” style 6 gallon compressors for 10 years. While it worked for my small type nail guns that I use to build some projects, I could never use anything like my 3” cut off wheel or a really nice air grinder I have. My old compressor would run constantly and then the air tool would quickly stall out. Now with the new Dewalts more powerful compressor and larger tank I feel like I can finally buy even more air tools since the ones I have run so well now. This has all the capacity I’ll ever need. Although it is larger, this is a little quieter than my old pancake model. The actual noise (pitch frequency) it makes is easier on my ears than the old one which sounded like steel balls in a paint shaker. I really like having everything right there in front of me to read the two large pressure dials and turn the adjustment knob when necessary. When I want to plug in the next tool its right there too on the face plate no bending down, just push the next tool fitting in and click your good to go. The only time I have to bend over is to release the air out of the tank when done for the day. Nice big wheels to easily move around too.

(What's this)
This is a great portable electric air compressor that runs at 225 psi making it quite powerful as well. When using air tools there isn't any problem having the power to run my tools for my projects. It has two wheels to be able to cart it around the garage or down the street to your neighbors to help with their projects. Only drawback is that it could use a little longer cord since it's supposed to be portable but like most DIYers, we've got plenty of drop cords to accommodate this compressor.
