When I purchased this 15-gal. compressor, I was also a bit confused as to what I would need, for I had never previously used air tools. I just followed the suggested accessories, and all has worked well, especially sanding our large outside cedar decks. Now I'm hooked and suppose even more air tools will be in my future as I begin work on our basement this winter. 1) Dewalt 3/8" x 100' Premium Hybrid Air Hose. The hose comes in shorter lengths if 100' is more than your husband needs. https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-3-8-in-x-100-ft-Premium-Hybrid-Air-Hose-DXCM012-0206/305083334 2) Husky 13-Piece Brass Air-Compressor Accessory Kit for hooking up attachments; https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-13-Piece-Brass-Air-Compressor-Accessory-Kit-HDA51300AV/100392283 3) Husky 4-Piece Quick Connect Kit, also needed for attachments; https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-4-Piece-Quick-Connect-Kit-HDA20100AV/100003130 4) Husky 8 oz Air Tool Oil, needed to lubricate attachments; https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-8-oz-Air-Tool-Oil-HDA10800AV/100047286 5) He'll also need a 12/3 gauge heavy duty extension cord or better that Dewalt says should be no longer than 50'. I purchased Southwire's 12/3 SJTW Heavy-Duty extension cord; https://www.homedepot.com/p/Southwire-50-ft-12-3-SJTW-Hi-Visibility-Outdoor-Heavy-Duty-Extension-Cord-with-Power-Light-Plug-2588SW0002/205544514 I hope this helps.

It can not be lubricated nor does it need to be. It is an electric motor and electric motors have been built with permanent lubrication for many years. These motors last for a very long time, depending on the amount of use. The compressor is the same: it will last for a very long time, depending on how much you use it and how well you take care of it. A bushing will probably be the first thing to wear out and normal compressor use is probably never enough to wear out a bushing.
For light blasting. I still have concerns. It builds good pressure but run time is almost constant . If used in good ventilation it runs ok. I guess I would buy a unit with a larger tank and may be this would help.
Yes, I purchased the 8 in. Aircat sander, and it worked great preparing our cedar decks for staining. https://www.homedepot.com/p/AIRCAT-8-in-Composite-Central-Vac-Geared-Sander-3-16-in-Orbit-6700-8GCV/302767015

Yes, it is direct drive and there are no belts involved. I cannot answer where the compressor was made. But you can contact DeWALT directly at 1-800-433-9258 with that and any other questions you may have about the compressor.
Yes, it is quiet for a compressor this size.
I believe the warranty is one year unlimited and three years limited, meaning that not everything is covered for three years. I have used mine sparingly for close to two years without any issues. However, I have noticed that Dewalt has made some changes to the design for what I saw as a couple of issues, so make sure you get the latest design. That would be the one with the extra bar on the top to protect the pressure adjustment knob should the compressor fall over..
