Good question. The flexvolt is supposed to deliver considerably more power or torque with a 60v battery. But I think the non flexvolt saw will also deliver more power with a 60v batt. I had a non flexvolt drill that had noticably more torque with a 60v batt than with a 20v batt

No!! And for the price I think it should. I bought an after market product that was supposed to work but didn’t. Otherwise a great saw.

Whats the difference between this saw and the one advertized as XR? Both models are brushless.

Asked by KQLE November 5, 2020

Answers

Hey KQLE, sorry for the delay on this answer. Please disregard the previous answers, as they are misleading at best. The other model you refer to as being labeled XR (DCS570) is the the predecessor to this FlexVolt Advantage model (DCS573). You are correct that they both are brushless. The main difference, besides some cosmetic updates, is that this FlexVolt Advantage model has an updated motor and electronics that allow it to gain some extra power when paired with a FlexVolt battery. Using a non-FlexVolt battery will give the saw about the same power as its XR predecessor, the DCS570. So if you do not plan on using FlexVolt batteries with it, they are basically the same saw. If you use FlexVolt batteries with it, this will be more powerful.

This DeWalt battery powered saw exceeded my expectations. It is a very good tool and an effective replacement for electric corded saws for most uses. This is the first battery powered circular saw I have owned and it will now be my primary circular saw. I use the 20v 6.0AH Flex Volt batteries with the DCB115 charger. The batteries and charger did not come with the saw (purchased as “tool only”) and I had to separately purchase the batteries and charger. The wrench for attaching and removing the blade is contained in the tool near the battery compartment so it is always available when needed. There is a blade lock button for easy blade changes. The safety switch is in the handle and must be depressed to activate the blade trigger. I really like the blade brake as a safety feature. When the trigger is released, the brake activates immediately and quickly stops the blade rotation. The saw is powerful and performed as well as my electric corded saw. It easily cut each sample wood I tried, including composite material. The blade cut depth is about 2 7/8” and I cut through a 3” thick sample, to test if it would bind up or be sluggish when not cutting all the way through. No problem at all. The 6.0AH batteries, as previously indicated, are powerful and hold a charge for extended use. The manufacturer indicates that this saw is part of the “flex line” of tools that can use the same battery. That would permit tool only purchases if you already have batteries and charger, which is an added benefit.

More torque than a regular electric hand saw! Dewalt did not disappoint, I already had the 20 volt drill and it just made sense to add this saw to my tool box. The base is thick aluminum (weight savings), it’s easy to adjust for angled cuts. The wrench is perfectly stored in the base, blade install is easy and had no slippage when being used. My favorite feature is the slot in the back that allows saw particles to be dumped away from you and off to the side. Well thought out and worth the price. If there was a down side is that it’s on the heavy side but I assume that’s the price of a high torque motor.

I have been drooling over a cordless circular saw for months now. If you are thinking about getting one, don't hesitate buy it now. They really are that great! I tried both my 20 volt battery and 60 volt battery on Cub Scout projects this weekend. On softer wood, they both perform fine. I didn't see a huge improvement with the 60 volt battery. For the weight and precision I actually prefer the smaller battery. Run time was fine for me as well with the small battery. Not having to worry about cutting through your cord and focusing on your own personal safety is really nice. The power is great, even better torque than my corded circular saw. Noise is good too. Not much louder than my cordless drill. I received this DEWALT 20-VOLT MAX LITHIUM ION CORDLESS BRUSHLESS 7-1/4 IN. CIRCULAR SAW WITH FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE (TOOL ONLY) for free to write this review.

This Flexvolt cordless could be a replacement for your corded circular saw. This review is for the bare tool, so that means there is no battery or charger included. I am a very capable DIYer, not a builder, so I can’t comment on daily use and longevity. I tested this saw on pressure treated lumber which is more challenging for a saw than your typical dried lumber. First thing to note- this saw is heavy once you add the flexvolt battery; It’s a little lighter with a traditional 20 volt, but not enough to really matter. With battery it weighs in at 11 pounds, that is 2 pounds more than a similar competitor’s model using the same 9 amp battery. Carrying this up and down a ladder may be a consideration for you. This model includes an installed rafter hanger, which was pretty useful. I was able to hang the saw on lumber while I measured, etc, which eliminates the up and down or tripping on the saw accidentally. The included blade was ok for rough work, it is a thin kerf blade which was difficult to track straight on wet lumber, but was fine on dried 2x6's . This saw operated as well as my corded saw during my test cuts . I did go a little slower but I did not baby the cuts. Operating time will vary by the battery you use and amp hours, so my run time may be different than yours. I was able to make 39 cuts on a charge using a 9 amp flexvolt battery This is a really nice saw and I like that this accepts standard 7 1/4 inch blades, You can purchase a similar kit with 2 batteries which you may want to consider, but if you already have other dewalt tools this is a great way to add a really useful additiona that I am sure you will use often

This “Brushless” saw has the torque to get the job done. The old days of weak cordless saws are over. I put a 20V battery on and started making cuts. I used both a small 2 amp/hour battery and a larger 4 amp/hour battery. The saw performed great with both. I’m impressed by the power. Pressure treated 2 by material can be cut by this saw. My example is a bare tool and I only own 20V batteries. I’m planning on buying a 60V battery and using it soon. This saw carries the blade wrench on board in the foot and the built in motor lock makes changing blades easy. The foot is easily adjustable for both depth and bevel. The bevel adjustment has a built in angle scale that has a surprising level of accuracy and detents at 22.5 and 45 degrees. This saw also features a built in hook that allows it to be hung from a rafter, shelf or joist. This feature is handy to keep the saw within reach when working in awkward positions like ladders, etc. This saw has built in rulers on the blade side along the foot and on the front of the saw. It also has a depth gauge built into the depth adjuster. This tool is clever. The foot is solid and should stay flat and true for a long time. I sawed a 2x6 with both this saw and my corded DeWalt saw. This saw performed almost as strongly as the corded cousin. I recommend this saw. It’s a solid tool.

I don’t haver any FlexVolt batteries yet, but this saw still performs well with my 4 and 5 Ah 20V XR batteries. Since I’m invested in the 20V Max platform, I have enough packs in my battery arsenal to keep the tool running as long as necessary. Given the FlexVolt batteries supposedly provide 77% more power for even faster cutting, I’ll upgrade some of my older packs soon. The saw is well appointed with a nice rulered shoe and bevel/angle indicator, rafter hook, on board wrench storage, bright LED, and comfortable handle. It came with a 7 1/4” 24 teeth framing blade, so I was able to unbox it and get right to work. My first use was cutting 8’ long pieces of 1” thick, finished plywood. The saw cuts accurately, visibility is good, and the blade stops fast once the trigger is depressed (electric break system). Cuts were fast enough with an XR battery and I didn’t feel the tool bogging down. I did notice the batteries got pretty warm after each cut though. I wish I’d counted the number of cuts made per XR battery, but I believe it was approximately seven or 8, 8’ cuts with the 4.0 AH XR battery. I can only imagine how powerful and fast it will cut with a 60V FlexVolt battery. The only downsides I see with this tool is that it didn’t come with a fence or storage bag/case. And to be nit picky, I’d love it if (1) DeWalt could figure out how to make the fuel gauge on the pack visible when it’s mounted on the saw; and (2) the shoe had a little lip on the front and back to prevent it from sliding under a guide when cutting slightly warped plywood. Brushless design and DeWalt’s usual warranty… can’t go wrong with tool! Another nice DeWalt tool!

The DEWALT 20-Volt MAX Lithium Ion Cordless Brushless 7-1/4 in. Circular Saw with FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE (Tool Only) arrived a few days. I bought a battery and charger for it and I used it today to build some shelves inside my storage shed. The saw was easy to handle since it only weighs only 8.2 lbs. It cut all the lumber for my project without any problems. This saw met my expectations.

Saw is awesome! Very portable and much more advanced than my 18v 6-1/2” model. Has easy to operate depth and bevel levers, and the hook is a nice feature for site work. Comes with a decent carbide blade featuring anti-vibe slots. Unfortunately I only have the regular 20v batteries now so I’ll be limited in #of cuts per charge but I normally only do a few at a time so worst case I’ll just need to make sure I have the other battery in the charger at all times but NBD for now. Only downside is that if doesn’t come with rip fence; that’s why I gave it a 4 star rating.

I really like this DEWALT 20-VOLT MAX LITHIUM ION CORDLESS BRUSHLESS 7-1/4 IN. CIRCULAR SAW WITH FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE. I have always used corded Dewalt saws and this is the first time I have used a battery saw. I absolutely love it and will probably not go back to a corded saw. First, the battery life is phenomenal. I did not have to charge the battery once the first day after moderate use. Forgetting to charge it that night, I got another half a day out of it the next day. Second, it is light and easy to handle. Third, I like the guard set up. It does not bind up when you are cutting on angles. Fourth, the blade brake is awesome. It stops very quickly after letting go of the trigger. Fifth, it is very easy to use and comfortable. Not having to drag a cord behind you or worry about cutting the cord is a big plus. Great product.

This DeWalt DCS573B 7-1/4" Circular Saw when paired with the newer Flexvolt batteries eliminates the need for a power cord and extension cords. It's not a scaled down saw from any aspect. It is powerful, delivering 5,500 RPM. In one direction it is capable of up to a 45 degree angle cut; and 22.5 degree in the opposite. Missing is the parallel fence and hold down screw. Included is a self-storing wrench for blade changes. The little wrench is fairly short and not all that useful as I could not get enough leverage to loosen the bolt using it. On any job, a proper sized wrench or socket is readily available. I have two DeWalt circular saws but this saw requires a different fence. At some point in the future I hope DeWalt decides to include the fence, an essential part of every circular saw. Most circular saw owners have their preferred variety of blades for various types of material and finish. The 24 tooth framing blade included with this bare tool would not be my choice. On the sample cut, a significant amount of paint from the blade came off. Overall I am very favorably impressed with this saw. I plan to make it my "go to" saw; and leave the cord behind.
