      Absolute junk!
I built a 10x20 deck last fall. Laid it out with HD deck designer and picked up everything at my local store. These "NEW and improved" design deck mate screws are the worst fastener I've ever used. I had no problem with them tightening down like other people have claimed. My issue showed up 4 months later. After the snow melted I inspected the deck and found a few screw heads sticking up. Well to my surprise when I went to tighten them down I found all of them had broke!!! Now I'm in the process of replacing all the deckmate screws with GRK. So far 50% of them are broken. Stay far away from these screws!! Im going to contact my local HD and demand my Money back

        Improved version is worthless
“Improved” version absolutely sucks. It’s horrible, does not pull the two pieces of wood together. The screw just keeps spinning. Bring back the old version, which was perfect!!! If you want to pre-drill every hole, buy it, otherwise look at other brands. I am so disappointed as I bought a lot of them and I used to rave about this screw using it for everything outdoors and indoors. Picture shows “improved” version on left, with different thread pattern that does not create a tight connection anymore

Product I received is not like the picture. It doesn't have clear smooth threads.Anchor failure results from the additional cutting surfaces incorporated into and between the ordinary screw-ridges. These seem to be popular right now, but they have the result of turning the fastener into more of a drill bit and less of a fastener. Most of these have no significant holding power as a result of having bored out what should have been a tight anchor hole. I am unable to use them and would like to return them for refund but the nearest HD store is an hour away - my son picked them up for me. A waste of money. If I could find the old, smooth deck screws somewhere, I would buy 25 lbs of each size. See my photo of one of these screws. If HD is going to sell these, they REALLY should update the picture so as not to mislead people like me!

My deck is 17 years old and I have had to remove the cedar deck boards twice to access drainage issues under the deck. I used Deckmate screws both times and am glad I did. On both occasions I was able to remove the screws without any issues! Attached are a couple of photos of some of the screws that I just removed after 7 years of use. I wouldn't hesitate to reuse them but I'm installing a Trex deck to avoid the annual maintenance of a cedar deck. Great product Deckmate!

I really like the new star drive instead of the old Phillips heads. These go in quickly and pretty effortlessly. I went thru over 15 lbs of these on my project. I used them to attach around 500 balusters to my deck railing.
